Do we have any confirmation on changes since the preview in Boston? I saw the show in Boston, though i really enjoyed it (especially the production design) , there were some major changes including Come What May not being the lover's song (Your Song is now the lovers song). it can be such an easy fix.

Karen completely changed Satin's character to some strong woman instead of the fragile Satine like in the film, which is fine, i don't think that's going to be changed at all.

I really hope they make Christian walk down the aisle in the finale like the movie, i don't know why that was not done. this is one of the biggest moments i was looking forward to, but nope.

Still thinks Katy Perry's  "Fireworks" is a laughable replacement of "One Day I'll Fly Away". i hope this is changed somehow? literally people started laughing when it was supposed to be a tender moment, but then how can you not when someone sings "do you ever feel like a plastic bag?"

the death finale was so rushed during the preview. she literally was singing and then the next moment she's dead.

No one outside people in the rehearsal room is gonna be able to answer at this time. The previews don't start yet for a month so there is no way to tell what the state of the show is. Look for the preview thread.... next month.

It will be interesting to see which new songs they keep/cut.  I thought the "Single Ladies" bit was fun and thought "Royals" fit really well into the show.  I really hope they reconsider "Shake it Off".  Finally, I hope they find a way to bring in/afford (?) "The Show Must Go On."

The show looked incredible but had so many problems that made it just a mediocre show and, if recent shows have taught us anything, they’re probably not going to fix any of them before starting previews here.

Was hoping they do something to the facade of the theater

I’m hoping they give a Danny Burstein more material and a more showstopping musical number.

If I remember correctly, they actually did this in the very first preview in Boston but it was eventually removed when I saw it later in the run.

And I also agree that Firework needs to go. I hope they make enough changes to the book. Still looking forward to seeing this in the Fall.

Shake It Off was easily one of the cringeworthy things I'd ever things I've ever seen on a stage before. I so hope they swap out that song.

Shake It Off and Fireworks? Ugh! Why aren't they using the songs from the movie?

Be sure they want to appeal to a younger crowd, I guess. The problem is that pretty much every “new” song is either 100% unnecessary or completely wrong for this show.

They are serving cornbread and chili at intermission

It's "Shake It Out" by Florence + the Machine, not "Shake It Off." A great song, but not when sung by Danny Burstein.

Fireworks seriously is the replacement song for One Day I'll Fly Away? This alone makes me not want to see this show...that is one of the most beautiful scenes and songs in the movie...

I guess it goes with the sentiment of the movie, but feel like they could find a lesser known pop song that says the same thing. That’s not really a song you want in a musical. I’d hate to see someone really try to act those lyrics.

AFAIK this only happened at the first few previews; I was at the 2nd preview in the ADA row and Aaron blew open the doors right next to me and scared the hell out of me lol. It was gone by the time I went back a week later.

At his recent concert Aaron sang 'Your Song' and interestingly it was the film version with its bombastic orchestrations, which I find so much more epic than the subdued arrangement they used in the show.

I know that's no indication as to whether they decided to change that up in the show, but it sounded great.

I saw the show in Boston, and despite some of the issues, it was still a lot of fun.   Having some time to reminisce, here are the main changes I think the show needs:

(1)  Re-institute "Come What May" as THE song.  While "Your Song" may be more popular, the fact is anyone who has seen the movie, this change is just too jarring.  Come What May should be THE song.

(2)  As previously said, there are a few musical #s which should be dropped.  (Some of them previously mentioned).  We all know we are going to see a jukebox musical.  But when the audience is guessing the next song from the cheesy dialog and the song seems totally out of place, it just takes you out of the show.  This is usually not the case, but there definitely were one or two songs where the audience is like "come on!  are you kidding me?"

(3)  Well I guess nothing has been done with the leads.  And no offense to the Aaron or Karen (who are fine actors in their own right) but they just had very little chemistry.  Perhaps it is the fault of the book for not showing us why they fall in love.  But it just never seems like it is earned.  And that is perhaps the plays biggest downfall.

Don't mean to sound negative, the show was a lot of fun and the sets are amazing.  These are just some changes I hope to see them make to improve the show.

Reeve Carney's characterization of Orpehus is more similar to Ewan McGregor's Christian than Aaron Tveit's take was. I want wide-eyed innocence, not whatever they were going for in Boston.

Figured I’d post it here, big load in at the Hirschfeld today. Can see the cages in the mezz boxes, could see the set, but was unable to see much else and there were about 50 people around so I couldn’t be too nosey. Go take a look today!

How technical was the show in Boston? Did stuff come from the stage floor etc?

From what I can remember from the 5th preview is that the floor rose a bit to create stairs, but that was mainly it from what I can remember. Don’t remember any people coming up from the floor. Doesn’t mean they can’t come from other unique places though :)
