Anyone go to the first preview of this? I feel like it's going to either be fantastic or horrible.

It’s so strange, I feel like I have heard absolutely 0 buzz and seen 0 promotion for this show. I didn’t even know it had already started previews! Definitely not a good sign...

Yep, LCT is definitely putting all of its marketing resources behind Flying Over Sunset. But that may make sense, as this looks very well sold from a glance at Telecharge.

Even so, oddly quiet on the audience side as well. Not listed on Show Score, and very little on Instagram. Definitely unusual at this point, considering the talent involved.

I'm glad I clicked on this thread. I knew I was going to see this but I was sleeping on getting tickets because I wanted to pick a convenient time to go. It's really well sold.

for what it's worth, Intimate Apparel is a beautiful, breathtaking play showing Lynn Nottage at her very best.

Hope it stands up as an opera

I've seen the play and love the play, and Sher directing, I think I should see this. The only turn off is "opera." But for a LinctTix $30, I might as well.

Very excited to see this production. I had tickets for the first preview but alphas to exchange for a later performance.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

At what percentage are they filling the houses?

Saw it this weekend. A lovely production and score. Beautiful, grounded performances from all in th cast a I saw. Very faithful to the source material, but Sher's cinematic staging (use of a turntable in the intimate space) brings wonderful fluidity to the piece. And libretto/score does a nice job of further connecting and emphasizing the parallels between characters. It is a true opera - so you must be open to that.

Were all the actors easy to understand? I can sometimes struggle to hear all the lyrics clearly with English language operas (and no supertitles).

Cast is fairly easy to understand, but supertitles are projected on the set at three different angles.

I saw the piece tonight courtesy of TDF and I have to say that on the whole I liked it a lot. It is a true chamber opera so if you appreciate the art form you will not be disappointed. I will say that the first act does take a while to get started as one needs to set the time, place and characterizations, yet it felt a bit long. Act two was beautifully realized. My only complaint is that the two piano orchestration felt terribly repetitious. The opera really called out for some string augmentation. I kept on hearing violin and cello in my head and didn't really find a reason why the creators chose not to use them. But as I said, it is a lovely small opera that should be part of the international repertoire after this production opens.

A friend of mine who works at LCT said that audiences have been responding warmly to the production.

We found the show to be pleasant, with unmemorable musical and a slow start.  Liked it better as a play, yet the staging and the singing are magnificent.  A qualified recommendation.

Dissenting view here. I found the music quite unmemorable. And most of the lyrics are impossible to understand, despite the fact that the theater is so small. Thank goodness the words were projected on the walls.
