At the very least, I would think it's a trial run for licensing, to replace the original (badly outdated) version. Maybe it would lead to some regional productions or a tour. We'll have to see how it is.

I agree that this past season for Encores and Off Center was one of the worst in recent memory. Off Center needs to go back to rehearsing more where the performances are not so script dependent. A New Brain, Violet and Little Shop of Horrors were primarily off book and were much more successful.

THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is indeed problematic but not solvable. I do however agree that ignoring a plethora of brilliant forgotten shows to try to salvage a mediocre one is clearly a clinical move.

The important thing with Mrs Meers, is that she have two distinct voices and characters. Her ‘public’ persona could be a sweet English lady (same as the movie) and then her ‘real’ persona a touch as nails broad from the bronx. Her fake persona a could be German, Irish you name it - the idea is she’s a bad actress doing a cartoon accent. The problematic Asian stereotype can easily go.

The two Chinese brothers are more problematic and would need a full rewrite but if they weren’t so complicit in the kidnapping of the girls and perhaps were two undercover policeman, one step ahead of the villain they wanted to jail that could add to the zany nature of the piece. They just need to be smarter than Mrs Meers, so they aren’t vacant and their villainy needs addressing.

Also white slavery is a bit touchy, she could just be poisoning young actresses out of revenge for her failed career

How do people feel about subscribing? This is the first season when I've wanted to see all three shows. If I'm probably going to end up in the balcony anyway, should I just buy the tickets now and pay roughly $44/ticket or is it better to wait for TDF or Goldstar?
