Nathan Lane - GARY stage door recently |
I stagedoored for about 45 min with the rest of my class when we saw Gary, May 4th, and only Julie White came out. The preview thread mentioned he really only came out for a single preview and nothing else. It's still worth a shot, but I honestly doubt it (also hope he enjoys the show and the windowcard, seriously that art is gorgeous and it's a shame there is no other merch of it outside of the sippy-cups)
Nathan Lane for the most part doesn’t stage door.
I hope you guys have a great time!
You can get the window card through Triton Gallery.

If you live local, I’d try to buy it before or after the play at the store nearby to avoid shipping costs.
I think I remember seeing a Gary window card but I might be wrong. If there is one, I’m gonna buy it for him either way (it’s his first Broadway non-musical, so it will be a nice memory regardless) and if we get lucky with Nathan great, if not he still has a beautiful piece of art to hang on his wall. And maybe Julie or Kristine will sign it!

Yes, we do live locally! I wonder if getting a poster early and sending it backstage with a note to Nathan might work.
I didn't know Triton Gallery had it! Good to know!
Also, that's a good idea to ask security stage door before the show. It doesn't hurt to try since the worst case scenario is for them to decline the request. Good luck!
As for Beetlejuice, maybe they ran out? When I saw it during previews they had the sippy cup all in black/white in Beetlejuice colors.

Yeah, I was told they ran out. We did get Beetlejuice water bottles, though!

^Hilarious.
Just appreciate his performance, don't ask for more, because he won't be giving it.
You would have better chance before the show. We were in line waiting for Mockingbird and he walked by our line on the way into the theater. He did not seem friendly. But someone did approach him about a selfie or something. I don't think it happened but they did have a exchange. He was wearing a hat.

I'm not totally sure if that's a good idea. Like there have been threads on here before about seeing if meeting an actor before the show is a good idea and it seems horrible as they are just trying to get to work. Stagedoors are expected at this point, but I don't think pre-show meetings should become a thing as nothing is set up for it like stagedoors are. Seeing how Lane is not even interested in stagedooring in the first place, that should be respected and people should try not to ambush him in other ways as he's just trying to get to work.

Exactly. It's rude, disrespectful, and will just piss him off. Who do people think they are? Try to talk to him before a show? Gross. Such entitlement. Leave him alone, he doesn't want to talk to people, and that's ok.
If it was just for me, I wouldn’t care about this at all. I don’t need his autograph. I just want to watch his performance and that’s it. But I’m going to buy my brother the window card and hope for the best! I already explained to him that he might not come out, but that we should have a good shot at meeting the other two stats, who are equally hilarious and wonderful in the play. Or if we get there early enough MAYBE I’ll explain my situation to the stage door man and leave the poster with him until after the performance. I dunno...

He will feel blessed if Julie and Christine come out. What exceptional artists and incredibly kind. I went during previews. Christine was sweet and talked and held my hand when I told her I was praying for her during this stressful time. Julie came out on fire. Upon exiting the stage door, she yelled," I SAVED THE BABY!!!" She then proceeded to talk to everyone, sign and hug. No one asked either actress for photos, myself included, because they were clearly wound down and not camera ready. I felt it would be disrespectful after such nice and authentic exchanges.

Please DO NOT ADVISE PEOPLE TO APPROACH ACTORS BEFORE A SHOW. It is rude and is bound to end up in disappointment. Even the most accommodating of them will be in a rush and trying to get to the theater. And, in essence, your ticket buys you a good performance, not access after a show so if an actor chooses not to do the stage door, that should be respected. As has been mentioned before in this thread, you COULD ask at the stage door and see if you could send the poster back to be signed. Depending on what is going on back stage on any given day, you might luck out and get a signature.
Nathan Lane doesn't stage door, he signs no autographs, he does no "meet and greets," and if you approach him he'll tell you where to go. Just appreciate what he puts out there onstage because offstage he does not do the "fan" thing at all.

He sent out 50 signed Playbills after each show of The Producers to be passed out. Of course, he used the excitement of that announcement to make his quiet escape...

Yes, and if you believe he personally “signed” them all, I have a bridge to sell you.
really? I saw November on broadway . He and Laurie Metcalf signed my playbill ( and many others). he could not have been sweeter.. he even dropped my sharpie and was apologetic about it getting ink all over my sleeve.. like i cared..lol..

Please don't clutch your pears so hard! You will choke! I just meant that he dashes thru the stage door after. You have a better chance of some kind of exchange before the show. He walks thru Shubert alley and wonders before his show. The whole stage door thing before or after is ridiculous. I have seen Jeff Daniels ( On Colbert) , Andy Karl and Orfeh ( on a podcast by Rory Omalley) and a few others ridicule the whole thing. They hate it. It is obnoxious. But yet they are not gods.... If it means that much to you.. give it a try. But this whole.. "I would never" thing is laughable.....

I'm good, thanks so much sweetie. Encouraging people to "go after him" before a show is laughable and disgusting. He doesn't want to talk to you, and if you watch him "wandering around" you're the creep. Stay away from Nathan Lane unless you know him, that's pretty just standard for the planet.

Thank you, Sam.
