One of the two great Americans debating within a few minutes will be the next President of the United States.  I am confident they will offer some clarity regarding our global crisis that isn't being provided by the current inept Administration.

Thank You, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders!

VOTE  BLUE  IN  2020

What exactly has Bernie Sanders ever done that makes you call him a great American? Any historic legislation passed that he either authored or co-authored? Did he do anything noteworthy before he became US Senator?  It seems to me he basically hates everything about the US (capitalism, rich people, white people etc). BTW - have a feeling this debate will be basically be ignored due to people worrying about the coronavirus.

Yankeefan how about a moral, decent, empathetic politician.  In this country that is a great thing, I will vote for him again this time and then continue to support the nominee.  People who use terms like Bernie Bros are not helping the situation, Bernie supporters want a new economy that works for all people, not business as usual, we want change, but we're not going to not vote if we don't get our nominee  Dump must go.

Joe and Bernie bumped elbows (well, the elbow area) instead of shaking hands.  It's a new world.

I wonder how the virus will affect voting numbers in the next primaries?

Joe just committed to having a woman running mate.  Bernie would not now make that same commitment.

With all due respect, my definition of greatness is held at a higher standard. Bernie may be a nice gentleman  (although I heard most people dislike him personally) and to his credit he really believes in his policies but if that is the new standard of greatness in this country I think that is very sad.

IMO round one to Bernie (lol). Pick the best candidate regardless of sex or color. It is real important decision to be made for both of these guys because they are pushing 80 and that VP pick may be POTUS by end of first term if elected.

Do you honestly think Joe just decided to say this off the cuff to pander to women and hasn't already spent time discussing this with his staff, evaluating who might be the best qualified people and feeling comfortable the best candidate he can pick as his running mate out of that potential pool will be a woman? My money is on Klobuchar who I thought was extremely impressive in the debates and can speak compellingly to the mid-west blue collar demographic that abandoned Hillary in 2016 and is crucial to pull back to vote blue in 2020 to defeat Trump.

No I don't think he did it off the cuff but I do feel he felt for political reasons he had to pick a women so he narrowed his choices to just women. I could be wrong but that is my gut feeling. Like I said before, Biden's pick for VP is more important because more than ever there is a chance this person could actually become POTUS before four years is up.

Representation is important. Women and ethnic minorities in the US are not just now becoming competent and capable of leading in enterprises that would have shunned them outright in the not so distant past.  No one is recommending a quota system, but many of us find the typical defaults equally appalling.  It it takes a few cycles of remediation, then so be it.  Even the federal government has small-business set asides to foster diversity in the supply chain.  Otherwise the entrenched incumbents become the biggest barrier to entry for new entrants.

In the early 1980's, I had job interview for management type job for large bank in Denver Colorado. The HR person asked me if I had any problem working for a women. Of course I said no and it just shows how much times have changed for the better. BTW - she was a great boss and fun person who remained a friend for years.

So is speaking out against Capitalism (thats so beyond clearly failing us all at the moment), rich people profiting off of the poor, and speaking out against a group of people that have constantly had the upper hand in all ways of the world (Slavery, for instance) is un-american? What legislation have you passed to make you a great American? What are you accomplishments to society?

Its great having a voice like Bernie speaking up for the people who are constantly not heard from by our government because they ignore it. Thats why I like Bernie. He's a good guy, non corrupt (is this un-American too in your eyes?), and says what he believes in and votes and drives his message home. He's the most authentic and "real" candidate we've likely ever had lol. I love the guy so much and am so thankful his message has gotten out there over the last few years.

If loving Capitalism, loving rich people, and only liking white people are what make you American then why don't you just put your Maga hat on and head out into the public! They say its a great time to go out! Ya, I'm happy to continue listening to the guy who speaks out against people like the ones currently running our government. I mean truly, you just described the things he hates as Donald Trump, who's a capitalist, rich, and a white racist. That's the kind of people he is speaking out against, is that really a bad thing?

I thought they both did what they do well. I thought Biden came off best, but I admit I’m biased because I like him more as a candidate. I went into the debate generously thinking we have two good alternatives to the current occupier of the White House, even I have never preferred Sanders. But his overtalking, interrupting, and yell-talking, and no shades of nuance soon worked my last nerve. To his credit, I think he did seem to be trying to control his urge to overtalk and interrupt at times.

Biden called for some semblance of normalcy. Sanders wants a revolution in the middle of a pandemic. I’m not sure that’s what the majority of Americans want right now. I guess we’ll see tomorrow if the primaries actually occur (looks like they will).

That’s not to say Sanders totally lost last night. Biden endorsed some aspects of the Sanders college plan as well endorsing Warren’s bankruptcy plan.

In all honesty, I don’t know that debates make much difference at this point. Most people already know who they’re voting for in their primaries. I doubt Biden won over too many Sanders supporters last night. Sanders didn’t do anything to really alienate his most avid supporters, but he didn’t do anything to broaden his fanbase.

Some sort of revolution is needed if this is how a country, like the US, richest, one of the most populated, arguably has the most resources out of any country, handle a pandemic. If this is how we handle an actual crisis this speaks to our systems not working properly. Whether the sole blame is on Donald, the GOP, Government as a whole, health care, whatever it is, its clear things are not working in this country. Not that Coronavirus can necessarily be "stopped" but anyone who thinks America was prepped for this is watching Fox News and Fox News only well they have been telling people (as of yesterday!) to go outside and its a wonderful time to go outside.

Whether its Bernie's revolution or not, after a sitting President openly committing crimes while in office, an entire political party treating him like a king, a complete no response to a global pandemic, America is pretty broken. We need a revolution and CHANGE. Not back to "how things were", how things were is what has led our country to continue to trust in people like Donald Trump (aka rich white dudes) and continue to commit crimes with no punishment, no sense of reality, ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Its clearly major time for change in America and if anything, this pandemic is a perfect time for it. Our lives are all disrupted currently so I mean not saying disrupt us more but, lets get on a path towards bettering ourselves for the future, not just the now. Just my take, this country needs major freaking changes across the board. I think this pandemic is clear evidence of that. Like, Steve Minuchin has been commenting on the virus and its capabilities. He should be commenting on nothing but the stock market effects yet he is on these Sunday morning shows telling people to go outside. Like, WHAT??? Americans as a whole have always trusted CEOs and Presidents of Companies because we all assume they do the right things since they are in power making the most money. I hope this all can show people that is not the case, and in situations like this it is the CITIZENS and the American people that must come together to support each other and get through this.

Again, doesn't need to be his revolution but some major change is needed across this country. So many people won't have health care, so many will be out of jobs, so many people other than the rich will not get taken care of because of this. I hope for the best for everyone in this country during this awful time, and whatever changes need to happen, happen.

First off, I never said I was a great person but I will tell you what I have done in my life. I have worked for "Habit For Humanity" which helps build homes for people who normally can't afford them. I have gone to schools when my daughters were young and volunteered to read to students. I am part of the community watch in my neighborhood which tries to keep everybody safe and alert police of problems. I have run in more than I can count road races which my registration fee has gone for things like breast cancer. I am an active member of my church and support it with donations. My wife and I give more percentage wise to charity of our income that lots of rich people. In addition, we have made donations of clothes, appliances and other things to organizations like the Kidney Foundation. My wife and I have also adopted dogs from a shelter to give them a home. Finally, my greatest accomplishment has been to raise two grown daughters who I am very proud of today and every day. They are talented, hard working and just two very good young women. BTW - their political views are totally opposite of mine and I have no issue with that, glad to know I raised them to have their own beliefs. I will respond to your other stuff at a later time.

Call me Pollyanna if you will, but wouldn’t now be a time for all of us to focus our attention on fighting the virus with actions recommended by CDC/WHO/local government rather than attacking each other?

I appreciate all the work you have done to help your community, truly a great effort and model citizen! I mean it! We need more people like you out there.

My main point was Bernie can still be patriotic while calling out our biggest issues in our country. If if its those issues that define us, then it speaks to us having major problems and a need for a "revolution" as he calls it. Im glad someone cares enough to actually, without giving an F about what big corporations or donors have to say, says what they believe in and what is wrong for the country. I respect the man a hell of a lot for it.

Voting in tomorrow's (March 17) Primaries are:

Arizona (67 delegates)

Florida (219 delegates)

Illinois (155 delegates)

Ohio (136 delegates)

The Ohio Governor wanted to postpone their Primary until June, but minutes ago a Judge said "no".  This information is correct as of this moment while I post with a cat in my lap.  But.....life can change rapidly in our current world.

Also, Senator Romney is proposing a $1000 cash payment to all Americans, as soon as possible.  We shall see.

Thanks you for your kind words, I do appreciate it.

I disagree with probably everything Bernie Sanders stands for. Capitalism with its faults still is better than socialism IMO. I like a system where a 21 year old kid (Mark Zuckerberg) with a couple of his friends can come up with the idea of Facebook and become a billionaire. The same thing with a young black woman (Oprah Winfrey) who made the most out of being a talk show host and went on to build an empire that made her one of the richest women in the world. This does not happen with a country that is socialist IMO. I just believe in freedom to become the best I can be instead of system that government controls my destiny. I will give Bernie Sanders major credit for saying what he believes and not pandering to anybody.

I will not really get into the subject of race because it is hard to have honest discussion without it getting into name calling among other things. I know white privilege gets thrown around so I will tell my story real quickly. I was born in Mineola NY and my father died when I was 8 and my brother was 12. My mother had not worked in years, back then women stayed home to raise their children while the husband worked. She went back to business school to sharpen up her skills so she could get a job and support us. She got a bookkeeping job which did not pay lots of money but we had a roof over our head and plenty to eat -lol. We did not begrudge anybody who had more than we did which was mostly everyone we knew. Anyway, I did not go away to college due to my Mom did not have much money. We decided I would get a job to earn some money and then maybe try to go to school at night. I got a clerical job in NYC that paid $75 a week -lol. Then a couple of years later they had opening to become a computer operator. There would be no interview, if you wanted the job you had to take an aptitude test. The person with the highest score would get the job. I got the highest score and so my career in IT started and lasted almost 40 years.

I carved out a nice living working and then met my wife and together we did pretty well.(she is currently a clinical nurse supervisor). My long winded point is that I was not a child of privilege. I worked hard for every penny I made in life. My career opportunity had nothing to do with the color of my skin, it had to do with my ability. Is there racism in this country, sadly yes. Has things gotten better regarding race relations in this country, as a child of the 1960's I will say the answer is yes.

I will end this now with the full understanding that we will not agree on much. That is fine, differences make the world go round. My advice to you is stay true to your beliefs and fight for them with civility. Finally, I will tell you my first political hero in life was RFK and I remember crying my eyes out when I heard the news that he had been assassinated.
