If Biden has to go up against Trump in the Tv debates the Dems are toast.

He can't even debate against his own side let alone with a psychopath x

I agree with MikeInTheDistrict. Democrats are too divided into factions. I honestly think Trump will likely win next year. I so hope I’m wrong. Biden is already losing his lead and I think the polls that show him beating Trump will change once he goes toe-to-toe with him in the debate. Warren/Bernie are too far to the left fir much of the country. Mayor Pete has a lot I admire but his lack of experience bothers me, but the real problem is his lack of engagement with the African American community. Part of that is because even in his mayorship of a relativity small town, he bungled a race-related issue. Don’t get me wrong. I like him. But I don’t see him winning the nomination or The White House. I actually love Amy Klobuchar and she seems to be gaining some traction, but I don’t feel optimistic about her chances. Still - As of today, if the Oklahoma primary were next Tuesday, I’d likely vote for her. If not her, maybe Harris although I’m not as enthusiastic about her as I was after first debate.

I honestly think what we’re seeing is the two-party system stretched beyond its limit these last two election cycles. We sort of saw the beginnings of it when the Republicans split between the “old guard” GOP and the Tea Party contingency. But, inexplicably, the Republicans were able to subsume the Tea Party (by moving further right), and emerge whole again. I thought we would see a more devastating divide on the right with regards to Trump, but he seems somehow to have marshaled the right around him in unity instead of creating a schism. No such thing seems liable to happen on the Democratic side, however. Either the Democrats somehow subsume the Bernie Sanders contingency like the Republicans did the Tea Party, or we will grow more fractured on the left.

Ideally, I’d like to see the U.S. system evolve past the two-party model to something that includes pluralities, like the German system, or even Britain. But that could take years. In the short term, my opinion is that the Democrats probably need to steer left and win back the young people. Or the young people will go their own way and the Democrats will be left essentially deserted of a voting block that is becoming more and more crucial.

In order, here are my favorites:
Buttigieg
Yang
Steyer
Klobuchar
Biden
Warren

I wish we could fuse them into 1 magnificent, experienced, non-binary, multi-ethnic, just ruler with a virtually unlimited cash war chest and a really cool lapel pin!

Yes, because polling less than 2000 Independents (read: Not Democrats) are absolutely going to select the next President. Since, you know, we've had an Independent President since..........George Washington.  Yeah, we're completely doomed. Based on a Vanity Fair article.......

I'm a huge fan of Buttigieg and am thrilled to hear he's way out in front in Iowa and is somewhere around second place in the latest NATIONAL democratic polls! How is that even possible given the vast experience of his competitors? He certainly reminds me of the white version of Obama's rise back in 2007.

So the 64 thousand dollar question is: if Buttigieg somehow made it to the top of the ticket by the time of the Democratic Convention, would he guarantee Trump a second term? I would so love to see Pete cut the Donald down to size in the debates, but would a great performance by Pete sway enough voters back to the democratic column in the general to put him over the top?

If Buttigieg got the nomination he would need someone like Andrew Gillum or Stacey Abrams as his VP to have any chance at beating 45.

Again, I love Mayor Pete, but he doesn't have the black vote. And he's not trying to get it. He'd guarantee #45 four more years.

Say it again, Sam!  It's the mother of all third rail issues.  I'm sticking with the only Dem I find electable in this cycle, Biden.  But, Amy Klobuchar and Mayor Pete really stand out for all the right reasons, with honorable mention going to Andrew Yang.  I would love to see the Dems regain the Senate and elevate Elizabeth Warren to Senate Majority Leader. She needed to tack left of the pack in order to pick off Bernie supporters, but the move obliterated her electoral college prospects.  I'd like to see Mayor Pete add IN governor to his resume.  IMHO he's the future of his party.  But, this one is on Biden's racket.  He simply needs to sew up the nomination and pick up a running mate who can solidify his grip on 270.

I love that you read magazines for your polls and political information. Liberal magazines. That's where you get your news? Try BBC where it's non biased, unless you need it to always be in your favor. Facts are important, not just watching people already agreeing with you (Fox News or MSNBC).

Pete will never win against Trump in 2020. That is a fact which sucks, but it's still reality.

And anyone who says using nonsensical words is "not cool", but makes a JOKE about Jeffrey Epstein (he was a child rapist for decades?) is quite the ridiculous hypocrite. Oh, and who is also incredibly unfunny as well.

Bra chill!  Ya wanna watch Fox News for the NON-Liberal POV Be MY Guest! I love that you "love" that I  intake a variety of media  (yes Ah do read magazines ! I even BUY them too!)

As far as the BBC being unbiased. No issues bra but so is the CBC - in fact we are famous for our news coverage. ( not so much with drama and comedycheeky)

IF u are referring to a quote  I posted re Harvey Weinstein ( we need the eggs Doc) it was that a quote on a very well written argument on how creatures like Weinstein and Epstein et al  have continued to survive and flourish.

I love how you keep beating us over the head with this comment and keep presenting it as fact when it is really nothing more than your opinion. RealClear Politics has the average of all current polls showing Pete winning by 4%, beyond the margin of error in most of the polls reporting. Even FoxNews' own poll shows them tied at 41%. Obviously, this can change drastically over the next 11 months but to continue to opine that Pete will never win and state it as "fact" is ridiculous. Not quite as ridiculous as most of the other comments you post but a strong effort nonetheless.

I don't envy the Dems one bit.  While I support Biden, there is a widening enthusiasm gap where he's concerned.  He's lost his rock star status in an era that is all about optics, personal charm, checking the right boxes, social media influence, and debate performance.  On the other hand, we have the incumbents like Trump, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and their heir apparents Joni Ernst, Ted Cruz, Gym Jordan, and Kevin McCarthy, as well as the first woman likely to become US potus, Nikki Haley.

Tread very carefully, Dems.  Trump has been a useful idiot for both Putin and Mitch McConnell.  McConnell's hands have been all over Trump's appointment of ultraconservative federal trial & appellant court judges, as well as 2 associate supreme court justices who will be in place for a generation or two.  And if Nikki Haley and Joni Ernst can somehow survive Trump's seemingly likely second term in office without getting too much crap all over them, one will become the GOP lodestar in 2024.

Biden needs to get elected, sworn in, serve a term, and pass the baton 4 years out.  His first term should provide cover for some Dem somewhere to merge the Bill Clinton/Barack Obama/Pete Buttigieg/Elizabeth Warren coalitions in time for the 2024 election cycle.  I really don't don't want to witness 20 candidates on a debate stage again.

U make a good point. She ticks so many Repub points (sadly including women's reproductive rights) it's a bit scary. I just don't know if it's something she wants. I suspect she may become CEO at Boeing given the crap job the present one is doing and she may not want to leave a highly lucrative and status position for the tsuris that is POTUS.

Oh she wants it. I don't think she'll ever get it but she appears to clearly want it. She is, as she hawks her book, doing whatever she can to stay in/return to Trump's good graces and position herself as his running mate if he decides to jettison Pence. And what is the best way to do that? By echoing his talking points in her book and in interviews that he will at some point likely see. Nothing gets him more excited than that. She's smart though cause it's an art to be a political opportunist but not make it obvious that that's what you're doing. Rumors like this don't start by themselves. That Trump denies that he would consider it means it's already in his thought process and Trump denying something means that there is a better than 50% chance it will happen based on the history of everything else he's denied that subsequently happened.  Where there's smoke....

If she truly wants to become POTUS, that would be the worst political move ever. She needs to stay clear of 2020 totally and just bide her time.

I'm under the age of 80 (although I don't know why that matters).  "Malarkey" is a perfectly wonderfully descriptive word that I use frequently, as does Biden.  He's bringing a bit of fun to his campaign, and I like that.  Joe Biden is going to be a great President.......... no malarkey!!

If this is the nit-picky, distracting bullsh*t that the Left is going to get bogged down in while running against this despicable excuse of a human being, we are completely and royally f*cked.

i have been using "jibber jabber"  but retain a fondness for "gobbledygook ."

and HARDly "bogged down"- just an amused commentary.
