My advice to the auditioners asking for advice for a song.  You could at least kindly return the favor by letting the advisors know their suggestion was well taken or if you had success with it.  Even if it was a lousey choice let them know. Okay?  I gave out at leat a dozen suggestions and not one has responded with a thank you!

Welcome to 2019. Expect it to get worst in 2020. Millennials want and get so their question was answered. Never expect anything in return and things work out perfectly. Expecting a simple “thank you” is wasteful. You ain’t gunna get it.

I'm gonna butt in here real quick to point something out, hope it doesn't ruin your "kids today" grumblings...the majority of the people writing these "What should I audition with" posts aren't Millennials. Some are, sure, but the VAST majority of these come from high school and college students, who are not considered Millennials because they're born after (LONG after sometimes) 1997. They're Gen Z. The majority of the actual Millennials on this board? We're in our 30s and have been auditioning for a long time and we may not have job stability, health insurance or the hope of ever owning property, but we do have our audition books together.

Oh, and thank you.

It is annoying.   I seldom respond to those anymore for that very reason.  If they make an account for ONLY that reason, which many of them do, I don't bother.  The student board is useless as it's riddled with these requests from kids that are 'hit and runs'. Heck, they don't even bother to try to help each other. (or when they do, its to a month old thread to a ghost.)   I also think it's strange how they 1. wait to the last minute and 2. don't just work on their repertoire so they are nearly always ready.   I find it ridiculous to work on a new song for an audition just days away.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It's not just audition advice.  It has been a pet peeve of mine on these boards for a long time, that when people ask for answers to their specific questions, many do not acknowledge your answer, much less say thank you for the information.  I don't think it's an age thing.  I just think they are generally rude.  Whenever I ask for specific info and some of the time I get it, I reply with a post saying thank you to that poster.  If I can do that...then others can to.

This is certainly true!   I know I always try to say thank you - or at least interact after answers so people know I've actually read them.

Civility seldom exists.

To all who responded to my post, a Leslie Bercuse "Thank You Very Much" and a Lin Miranda "You're Welcome"...

Please realize that many of these posts asking for "advice" are merely trolling expeditions to see how much response they can get.  Sorry your feelings were hurt in your earnest quest to help.

For a current example of how an OP demonstrates appreciation for responses, see David10086's thread:

Has anyone else heard of a deceased actress called an "April Rose" ?
