David Yazbek and Robert Horn to Write Tammy Faye Bakker Musical |
CATSNYrevival said: "I'd rather Yazbek stay focused on The Princess Bride musical. What happened to that?"
In the Broadway.com interview with THOMAS Schumacher, he said it was still on, but they were still in the process of writing songs for it...
The Bakkers are prominent characters in Born for This, which is still kicking around and claiming to be Broadway aimed. Here's hoping this production is less self-serving than that one was, because without the drama of what actually happened when their careers crumbled, there wasn't a lot of there there.
Jordan Catalano said: "Ill believe it when I see it. This is one of about 10 musicals that Chenoweth has been attached to for years."
HDY! Cheno is 100% doing this...and Soapdish...and the Dolly Parton musical...and Death Becomes Her...and Hello Dolly...oh crap....

I'm not sure about Soapdish - that's been in development for years. I'm not sure what Horn and Yazbeck's latest hit has done to affect this. Has the decision to drop the soap elements from Tootsie made Soapdish more unique or sent the message that Broadway productions about Soap shows are not viable? Furthermore, the Trans activists uncomfortable with Tootsie's "gender bending for personal gain" storyline will be absolutely infuriated if the Montana Moorehead subplot is retained in Soapdish...
It’s hilarious how much weight keeps getting added to this. Kristin VAGUELY responded to the viewer’s question. She looked blankly into the camera like a deer in the headlights and just mentioned they’re writing it. That’s it. She didn’t even imply she was in it so her response could easily be just about the musical without her involvement. Like it was mentioned above, she’s attached to about 10 musicals right now. All “in development.”
That would be all of them.
On RuPaul's podcast about a year ago, Cheno talked about this and a workshop they did, after which they were changing direction. Sounds like this is where they landed.
And indeed she also spoke about Death Becomes Her and said they were in the process of finding a team at that time.
It could be interesting maybe. The biopic made of her life, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, was really wonderful and showed her to be much more human, empathetic, and genuine than most televangelists, with her live and let live attitude.
