The London production. I believe it is the original leads from London. There is no reason to think Hairspray will be filmed.

Only Michael Ball has been announced to reprise his Edna Turnblad in this revival, which will be a recreation of the original 2002 Broadway production. No other casting has been mentioned.

Really Gurl? Theres a full out limited revival production that was just announced in London. It makes total financial sense that filming it is one of the reasons. It seems the West End is the place to get things filmed these days. BTW.. I don't know anything.. But to say "there is no reason to believe" when there is PLENTY of reason to believe..

Yes there is. It is the first thing I thought when I saw the announcement and that Michael Ball was reprising his role. I don't know that the world needs yet another version of Hairspray. But yep.

It’s massively cheaper to film in London is why, regarding the unions etc

HAIRSPRAY is playing 12 weeks at the London Coliseum, where the English National Opera performs, and where Glenn Close did SUNSET and EMMA Thompson did SWEENEY. Is Hairspray a full production or a concert?

It appears to be a full production. All the original creatives are back.

First, don't call me "Gurl." Second, cite the evidence which leads you to believe that there is "plenty of reason to believe" that it will be filmed,

I would pay to see a filmed version in theatres.

Yay! I totally forgot this was even a thing.
They taped it late last year before the London company closed. It's with the entire closing London cast, but with Killian Donnelly and Matt Henry reprising the roles of Charlie and Lola. (They opened the show here)

The return on a filmed version of a live musical is minimal. Filming a show is never going to be a reason to remount it.

The wrong word answer doesn’t come across as overly neighbourly. DVD releases of filmed theatre productions never make an enormous profit. You believe that a producer would spend the money remounting a show for the purpose of filming it? I’m genuinely interested if you have a different opinion?

At last years ( or the year before) TV academy interview Angela Lansbury talked about how she still gets checks from the taped version of Todd. I still get a nickel here and there from Will Rogers Follies. It all depends on how the production is conceived and financed and how contracts are done. But at least from The West.. we will be seeing this more and more. I happen to have a third party connection to the revival of Hairspray.. and if you notice from my previous posts... if I say anything I am not suppose to say it magically gets edited. Which is fine.. since I don't know anything as fact. Just a educated guess. Hope that helps.
