Well the musicals right now that we know are coming are Moulin Rouge!, Jagged Little Pill, and Tina. I would think Tina won't even be considered, but with the noms of Ain't Too Proud, maybe not? It's mostly going to be against MR! and JLP (as of right now at least, perhaps someone off-Broadway could transfer and sweep, who knows?)

I don't know if I want Six to come in the 2020 season or the 2021 season. Looking at what it would be against here vs not knowing what 2021 will bring is hard to tell where it would fit better. However, I could see it coming in LATE into 2020 season and trying for one of those last minute entrees into the race gambles like Beetlejuice did this year. It paid off for them.

....

I just REALLY want Six!

For Best Musical, it'll probably be between Rebecca, Nerds, Moulin Rouge, and Lestat Deux, with the clear winner being a musical TBA in the early spring that will open the day of Tony cut-offs. #WAYtooearly

In all honesty, after seeing its 5th preview, we'd have a really strong season of musicals coming up if Moulin Rouge isn't one of the 5 nominations. Not sure it it'll ever be a front runner but its nomination worthy for sure. Give me Fairview, The Inheritance, The LEhamn Trilogy, Blue, and an unannounced play for Best Play now though! You'll all be laughing a year from now when Im right!

If SIX gets great reviews at the ART, they should want to move it as quickly as possible to capitalize on the buzz. I would actually be surprised if it doesn't transfer to a small Shubert house in the 19-20 season.

I would also rather have six come in late this year instead of summer 2021. Hopefully it will!

Will Moulin Rouge beef up Danny’s role enough so that he warrants a Tony, that is the question.

Not that warranting one has ever helped him before now.

Danny Burstein so deserves a Tony---actually many Tonys.

I agree with the above posters; I’m really hoping 2020 is Burstein’s year for the Tony!!

I admit too, Six does sound interesting, if done well. Any songs anyone would recommend listening to to get a good feel for the show?

My favorite song from six is ex-wives, which is the first song. I would start with that to get a feel of the story of the show!

I'm loving the Six love. <3

  • Moulin Rouge and JLP are def getting "Best Musical" nominations.
  • Moulin Rouge for set
  • JLP for Book?
  • I'm hoping Magic Mike turns out to actually be a pretty good show.

I thought Nerds wasn't a thing anymore?

Has anyone seen both Lehman Trilogy and Inheritance?  Which would be more likely to win the Tony?

Just based on the Oliver's Id say The Inheritance since they competed against eachother. Both are very New York stories though, so Im anxious to see how they play here. They may be either more well regarded or less well regarded once they play on home turf, and references and settings are more obvious to the theatergoers.

I'll be sure to check out Six!

I was blown away by The Inheritance and let down (though still impressed) by The Lehman Trilogy. If/when The Inheritance comes in, there will be those who say it's derivative of Angels in America (another two part play about AIDS?!) and others who think it's too melodramatic. But then there will be people like me who were profoundly moved by the show. I found myself shaking with tears at the end of the first part and refreshed and hopeful (though still wistful and sad) by the end of the second. What the show has going for it is that for people who connect, it's an emotional roller coaster. The Lehman Trilogy, while hugely impressive in so many ways, to me feels a bit more emotionally removed (often by design). I think the LOVE factor would push The Inheritance over the top. I so deeply hope The Inheritance does make its way here. It was my favorite show of 2018.

This was almost certainly a joke....

if I were a producer with an ORIGINAL score I’d be fast tracking my show like hell to get it in this season.

I’m not familiar with Six, but I didn’t love Nine, so I think I’ll hold out for Three.

The studio recording is all on spofity and really being that it's only a 75 minute show, it doesn't take that long to listen to the whole thing. Ex-Wifes is a perfect set up number to listen to but each queen's song is very different and it's one of the rare recordings with NO skip songs. They are all enjoyable in their own way. But I usually can't get "Don't Loose Your Head" or "All You Wanna Do" outta my head while I am at work.

This will be known as the year of the jukebox musical -- and will probably mark the peak of its existence on Broadway.  Moulin Rouge vs. Jagged Little Pill vs. Tina

Plus, don't forget the Huey Lewis Musical and Once Upon A One More Time which is Britney Spears songs. I believe the latter is closer to premiering on Bway but not positive. If done well, Im sure I'll love all of these. As with any show of any genre done well. But,  I do wish we got more original work. Still early however.

Did they announce a cast for ART six? Is it at all connected to Six that is opening in Chicago soon? I mean obviously it’s the same show but are the same creative teams working on both productions?

Best Musical- Moulin Rouge
Best Play- The Inheritance
Best Revival of a Musical- West Side Story
Best Revival of a Play- Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?
