Random thread, I know. But I need your advice because I feel like I could dress better in a place as a frequent show goer.
So, Im going to Baltimores Come From Away tonight. Right now, Im wearing a shirt that shows off a good amount of skin from my neck to a little bit of my chest. It has spaghetti straps as well. Is that too racy for a nice show?

Sweets. You’re sitting down for the performance on stage. Only those seeing you arrive and heading to your seat will see what you’re wearing. Lots of people wear what they feel like wearing, regardless if it’s appropriate or not (that’s subjective). Once you sit down, you could take off your dress and only those around you will only know.

I'm gonna side with YOU on this. Not because I think what you're wearing isn't appropriate mind you, but because you've expressed your own level of discomfort regarding your outfit.
When I saw Tootsie in Chicago, there was a male patron wearing what could have been a costume for Edna Turnbladt from Hairspray. The outfit included an unflattering house dress (mu-mu style) and a wig that (firstly) was obviously a wig, and (secondly) looked like it was removed from its acrylic (like the hair itself) packaging, and placed directly on the wearer's head, un-styled.
I won't lie. My first thought was, "Oh, honey - let me help you with that..." But my more predominant thought was, "You go! U B U!"
Wear what you have the comfort and confidence to wear unabashedly - and within the laws of your state.

I think it sounds fine as long as you're comfortable with wearing it. But I'd definitely recommend a sweater as theaters can get cold. Have fun!

You really needed to post this on BWW!? Why are you asking us? Why not your bff or a friend. Anyway, you chose to wear what you did! Enough said....did it really matter in the long run what you chose to wear and racy? HA!

I find a lot of joy in dressing up for a show. Picking out a nice outfit, feeling a bit fancy, feeling like I match the show I'm seeing. (Jewel tones for The King And I, 30s cut skirt and large gold bracelets for Hadestown, rich reds and ostentatious jewelry for Comet). It's a part of the experience for me.
I know other people who get anxiety at the very thought. It's extra pressure on them. They'd rather not engage. And that's fine. You don't owe anyone at the theatre anything except being quiet and non distracting to their own experience.
Would you be more comfortable wearing something else? Either physically or psychologically? Would you enjoy your experience more if you changed? Or would you enjoy it less?

By "nice show" do you mean fancy or family friendly/conservative? It's Baltimore. I think you'll be fine.

Being over dressed is always better than being under dressed. Those only things that are not allowed in a Broadway theater are wife beaters tanks, cargo shorts (never acceptable anywhere ever) and dirty shoes.

Wow. I understand they are not fashionable to many people but they IMO are perfect for a guy to wear to place like Disney when he does not want to carry a bag around the park all day.
