Hello! I’m planning to go see Be More Chill this week! (Thursday). After the show, I’m planning to stage-door to meet the actors, and I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to optimize my stage-door opportunity or if there is anything to look out for. Thanks!
There are dozens/hundreds of people for them to see. The actors just want to sign and go home (or get a drink). Be polite, say something specific about their performance, put it on IG, go home.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Considering the fandom of this show is nuts, the stage door is pretty packed every night. It takes place to the left of the entrance to the Lyceum and there is a guy there who keeps everyone updated as well as security. It was a highly organized and very pleasant experience when I went and the cast, whoever opts to come out, are very fan-friendly.
Even if you are toward the back (because the crowd clogs the sidewalk like a heart attack), they usually collect a stack of Playbills and pass them up to be signed before passing back.

I’m curious as to why the stage door for this show is on 45th Street. Usually people wait for autographs at the Lyceum around the back on 46th, which is the actual stage door. I was very confused one Friday night around 10:45 when I walking down that street and saw no people there.

Because of the larger crowds BMC draws there is just not enough space to do it at the normal 46th street exit (which i believe is the theater's official stage door). Even on 45th street it is tight on space, but its still better than 46th.

This guy is awesome, and super friendly. Seriously, it's worth stage dooring, even if just to talk to this guy. (And he ain't too hard on the eyes, either!)

I went on a Thursday, and it was actually relatively calm. I was surprised by how NOT crowded it was. The entire line was 2 or maybe 3 people deep all the way around.
I've been by on a Saturday night, though, and it was a completely different story. The place was packed, but it seemed to be really well controlled.
I went to see the show in late March. To make it fun, I was considering to interview the actors at the stage door as part of a college project. However, it was so crowded that I didn’t do it, and I just used the interviews I had with the audience members from the project. And that’s not the only hectic part about it, when I got back in my car to go home, I heard something that sounded like tires screeching as if a car was gonna hit someone...and it turns out it was actually the fans screaming at an actor coming out, but I couldn’t see who it was!
Based on what I saw, my advice is to bring something with you to do while waiting, and be patient! Also, if you are going with someone like a parent or a friend, be sure to stay with them at all times, as it looked like you could loose them in the crowd if you’re not paying attention.

^this is accurate, but to be more specific: the official Stage door on 46th is tightly wedged between a restaurant and a parking garage. So there is nowhere for a large crowd to wait without causing major problems for either the restaurant patrons/owners, or for the cars trying to exit the driveway. Actors have come out there to sign for other shows, but in those cases the size of the crowd was always small enough to prevent obstructions.
