R.I.P. Georgia Engel |
Copying and pasting my post from theo ther thread, because why not?
So sad to hear this. She’s was undeniably one of a kind.
Her performance in Annie Baker’s “John” was absolutely unforgettable (in the best kind of way).
I also had the pleasure of seeing her in “Roman Holiday” in San Francisco. She was saddled with some lousy material, and carried the burden of being an extraneous character who wasn’t in the original film. And yet, she brought her singular brand of strange, quirky humor to the role and ended up getting the biggest laughs of the evening.
This is mind-boggling to me. Someone posted about this - ONE person - a friend on Facebook who worked with her. That was on April 12th, which is when she died. Why does it take three DAYS for this news to hit BroadwayWorld and elsewhere. Baffled.

she died on Friday 4/12
I saw her in Half Time (the revised version of Gotta Dance) at the Paper Mill Playhouse last year. Ms. Engel was delightful along with a very talented cast doing their best to make the show work.
She will be missed.
Very saddened to hear this. Grew up with her on Mary Tyler Moore and got to see her do her magic in The Drowsy Chaperone in L. A.and in John, not even 2 years ago. Gone way too soon. R.I.P. Georgia.

Isn’t sometimes about waiting for the family/estate to release an official announcement? I would think Theatre publications slightly more honourable than most mainstream ones (slightly)
Great episodes of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' featuring Georgia:
"The Georgette Story"
"A Boy's Best Friend"
"Ted's Wedding"
"The Ted & Georgette Show"
They're all on You Tube. She was so funny and talented and brought so much laughter to so many. RIP

Sad news. I was so hoping she would return to the Signature or in a Broadway venue. I thought she was fantastic in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and JOHN. A great loss.
She was one of my favorites on Everybody Loves Raymond and Mary Tyler Moore. She also played a recurring character on Betty White's Hot in Cleveland, there was a whole episode where all the women of Mary Tyler Moore showed up as members of Elka and Mamie-Sue's bowling team reunited. It was particularly poignant because Valerie Harper had just announced her battle with cancer. R.I.P Georgia, give our love to Mary and Ted.

That episode also was sad when I immediately realized they never showed Mary standing or walking. All the other ladies would arrive, get up, etc in the scenes but Mary always started them already sitting. I didn't worry too much at the time, but it was obvious she was declining in health.

I love these ones so much:
Karen Carpenter & Georgia here sing something sweet and special (with Karen near the end of her life) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puMBY7ebtv8
From MTM show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq1CelntHpY
As a student at the University of Hawaii, she played Philia in "A Funny Thing..." An inspired choice.
How do you post a picture from your own private photo file here on the chat line? I tried but I can’t figure it out. I click the icons above here but none of them let me do it. That I can see anyway.
I have a couple of lovely pictures of Georgia Engel that I wanted to post here.
Thx.

You can’t post a photo file, you need to have a url for the photo file.
I use this online site to create a url for my personal photos so I can post them. It’ll create a url link that you paste in the photo option on this message board.
