Bernardo is usually a man in his 20s or 30s, so it makes sense.  But, we don't know who he's playing yet.

Bernardo is listed as “20s” in the EPA for this revival.

At 25, David Alvarez is the right age in the film. 37 is ridiculous.

At 37, Amar is entirely too young for Bernardo.

Um, then I guess you meant he is entirely too OLD.  In the 2009 revival Bernardo was also 25 years old.

They actually had to hack the script in CAROUSEL to take lines away from him. How on earth is a bigger part a great idea?

So If they aren’t doing white/Hispanic casting... isn’t that kind of important to the story? Is that gonna be his big, grand directing scheme?

This casting is not great.

Agreed. I was worried when this production was first announced with Ivo Van Hove directing, and my worries are only being confirmed now with this casting.

If this is going into the Broadway with no names, it won't last longer than 6-9 months.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Well then I guess you’d better skip this show!  Great news about Amar being cast.

I'm not sure what the "great" part is: that an incredibly weak actor has been (most likely) cast in a fairly significant role, or that a man who behaved in such an appalling manner is facing no professional consequences.

Did you actually see his acting in Carousel or are you just trying to be edgy?

They’re probably trying to be edgy, to no avail.

Newsflash: that doesn’t get you points on this board. Amar’s behavior is disgusting and appalling, no matter what way you go about it. And yeah... the acting is rough, too.

Given that it's Ivo, he's probably playing Lt. Schrank.

For what it’s worth, I thought Amar was the best thing about the Carousel revival and should’ve been nominated for a Tony. I will gladly go see this production just for him.

And according to The NY Times, his mother is Puerto Rican, so it seems to me that makes him qualified to be a Shark.

The BEST thing? Are you blind and deaf?! No disrespect but he was awful. Great dancer but that’s it. And a musical theater actor needs to do more than dance - although that seems to be debatable lately.

Amar Ramasar is indeed half Puerto Rican, but he was appallingly bad in Carousel and is also <<edited by BWW staff>>. If it's true that he's been cast, I'll be disappointed but not surprised.

Precisely where I'm at if this is in fact the casting. He couldn't act, and his behavior offstage has been reprehensible (and it's worth noting that when the grievance against NYCB was settled, the arbitrator simply said NYCB had gone too far--not that Amar was exonerated). Definite misfire on the part of whomever is casting this production.

Correct. THAT poster is clearly a man and very clearly doesn't understand the words respect or consent.  Respect women, it's kind of a thing.

Amar is not an actor, he is a dancer only.

We're living in a world divorced from reality sharing pics someone sent you with a third party is a jerk move, but that's all it is, and I don't see how anyone working with the men in the scandal could seriously feel threatened unless they 1) made the mistake of sharing nude pics themselves (not a smart move--in the internet age, a picture is never gone), or 2) are seriously over-reacting.

Amar gave the worst performance that I have ever seen in my many years of theatre going in Carousel. The worst performance that I've ever seen on a Broadway stage. He couldn't sing, he couldn't act, and, honestly, there wasn't anything particularly interesting about his dancing. And his behavior is deeply disturbing and he should be facing consequences.

I was very excited about this, but I think this production will end up being like Carousel. Powell is good casting. They're setting this modern day, I think, which makes sense that it's a mixed/black gang against a Puerto Rican gang. There aren't really big Italian gangs in Manhattan like there used to be.

But, dear God, fire Amar. It's not like there's a shortage of Puerto Rican guys in Manhattan that can dance, sing, and act. His presence will really ruin this for me.

And luckily the show is WEST SIDE STORY, which, you know, kinda requires GOOD dancers!  Bernardo is not an "actor's" role.  If and when someone casts him in Private Lives, then you can come back and whine about it.

I think "disgusting and appalling" is more on target than "deeply disturbing." I can't see how anyone can expect a nude pic in our internet age not to be shared--no matter how awful that is. Don't share pics unless you don't care who see. them or your absolutely know you can trust the person. And it wasn't predatory behavior--no one working in a show with him is in danger. They won't even have pics shared as long as they are smart enough not to share them. I really don't get the reaction. It's like people expect their emotions to be protected, and themselves protected from their own choices, their entire lives.

But I'm totally okay with audiences staying away in droves because they don't want to support him. Because he's a creep, or even just because he lacks talent.
