Exactly.  If this were trending there would be, I should think, some Google action about it - search his name on Google - the ONLY thing that comes up aside from the various announcements is - this thread.  I stopped looking after four pages.  Well, I just looked at the "hundreds" of outraged tweets, most, if not all of which, were written by young teens who seem a bit confused about what this person actually did - if they were going on about what he actually did that would be fine - when they make it up or outright lie and call him a criminal as if there'd been some kind of arrest and trial (you have to be arrested and convicted to be a criminal), using terms like revenge porn (not applicable to what he did), and everything else under the sun.  They'd be better off sticking to reality and calling him out for what he actually was/is accused of doing, which was, of course, not acceptable on any level.

And yet when I Google him the first page of results is dominated by stories regarding his participation in the events that led to his firing and subsequent rehiring at New York City Ballet

Yes, the first page of searching his name is completely dominated by his disgusting behavior.  Social media (IG, Twitter, FB) now has thousands of comments regarding his casting. As someone else stated, people are not going to let this go, nor should they. The 2 people still defending him support rape culture and are very clearly acting out of ignorance.

So is the WSS Instagram account going to just leave their comments turned off forever, so that no one can comment about their casting on any of their posts? Feels like a social media manager of a Broadway revival with Rudin, etc behind it should have been better prepared to deal with this here.

Well, you see, I searched his name AND West Side Story casting because, you know, that's what this is supposed to be about.  Yes, if you search his name only you get the stories about the controversy not a one of which mentions the casting.  But you knew that.

Comments were turned off yesterday morning because 99% of the hundreds of comments were about Amar's casting. Guess they can't handle any critical comments (much like the man himself) on social media.  I guess they figured it will all just go away.

That is just an outright lie and you know it. I looked last night and there were 32 comments most of which were discussing the casting 'yay' 'wow' etc and the same 2 people (one of whom was probably you) posting the same info over and over again with pretty much no response..

It’s called being a Social Media Manager 101.

If there’s a problem with one customer, you DM them and try to resolve it. If it’s larger, you turn off comments because that issue is above your pay grade.

Does anyone know or has anyone heard ANY developments on this? A friend of mine wants to bring a group of students but, by my own warning of the creative team and the tiny word of mouth there is surrounding this, is worried about the content and possible emphasis of violence in this specific production.

Sorry to revive an old thread, looking thru the 16 existing pages (which I did) didn’t seem to give me much insight.

There was a great interview with Ivo van Hove (3 hours) on European tv, will try to find it with subtitles. He also talked about WSS.

The marketing for this is so, so boring. Nothing about this excites me and WSS is one of my favorite musicals. Who chose the color scheme and why?

Couldn't disagree more. Received a mailer last week and love the campaign and aesthetics so much I didn't want to throw it away, going so far as contemplating putting it up somewhere in my house. Then, I thought, "What am I - a 15 yr old?"

I also got the mailer too. I also think the artwork is incredible. Fresh and contemporary. Kind of looks like an A24 film.

It would make me interested to see the show because it feels like something fresh + new as opposed to the same old production that has been trotted out time and time again. Who knows what we will actually get in the delivery though.

I’ve loved the marketing since I first saw it months ago. Doesn’t look like a dusty old musical (not that WSS is)- feels new and fresh.
