Wow cant believe its been almost 17 years since this played Broadway!! Count me as super excited to see this revival! Daniel Sunjata won a Tony for this!!
Daniel got nominated but fellow cast member Denis O’Hare won the Tony. That shower scene though... wow! Much better than Afterglow. Lol I’m quite excited! I was a college student back then and was glad I was able to see that production!
Many great actors of the day were in the original Broadway production and showed every part of their body in that extensively long shower sequence. Curious what actors of today would take on that challenge in a revival.

Zachary Quinto and Jussie Smollett participated in a reading of the play the day before Smollett's alleged attack. Doesn't really mean anything regarding any future involvement though.
Saw it at the Public and twice on Broadway, loved it each time. Glad it's making a return to Broadway, and I can't wait to see who takes the Denis O'Hare role - that really catapulted his career.

I know this may be too early to ask this question but...I am assuming this will be a limited run so any idea how long the run will be?? I had the chance to see this show in 2003 on my very first trip to New York but my sister talked me out of it. We arrived the week of the musicians strike so all our shows were cancelled. We found three shows we could see which were Cabaret, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Take Me Out obviously we saw the first two and they were awesome but I still remind my sister of "what might have been " lol

The shows before it have super short runs. Linda Vista starts previews September 19, opens October 10, and then is out likely around the end of November to make way for Grand Horizons, which previews from December 20, opens January 23, and then is gone by March when Take Me Out starts. So probably a total of about 3 months of performances, would be my guess.
A funny incident when I happened to meet Denis O'Hare at the stagedoor for Sweet Charity. When I had a chance, I congratulated him for his TONY win for Take Me Out. He traced my voice and smiled at me, saying " I was the only one who was not naked...because it was not in my contract". LOL!
He is such a very good actor - a very funny comedian and also a serious dramatic actor in some of TV shows I have seen him in.
I've seen two productions of this show. The nudity's fun but the script is fairly silly. They take a good premise (star player comes out right when a bigoted player gets recruited) but they turn it into camp with a baseball team that carries on like they're in Damn Yankees and some late show plot twists out of an old time melodrama or modern telenovela. It wants to say something about American masculinity, and almost does during the shower scene monologues, but never quite gets there.
Jesse Williams of GREY'S ANATOMY fame will star in the revival.
I think he's a great choice...for a few reasons haha.
