In a word, no. I just don't think that a big epic film like Shrek is suited for the confines of the stage...

I wouldn't mind seeing it stripped down and more imaginative in a story book theatre kind of presentation rather than what we got on Broadway. Something more simple and clever.

It didn’t work the first time, don’t have high hopes for a second time around. Frankly, it seems like it’s better suited for community or children’s theater, I’m sure the liscense holder makes a pretty penny off of school productions.

Also, there’s a live recording of the show that was released, it was on Netflix but I’m not sure if it’s still on.

Like many film-adaptation shows we’ve gotten in recent years, most of them are sort of relevant or just-outside-of-relevant when they debut. Many of them are so flimsy, though, that few every merit a revival as part of the grander musical canon.

The only ones I can think of the the past 20 years that can stand on their own outside of their original film is HAIRPSRAY, THE PRODUCERS, and KINKY BOOTS. Maybe THE BANDS’ VISIT but it’s too soon to tell.

Shrek was released between Shrek 3 and Shrek Forever After, meaning it was still a prominent brand when it made it to Broadway. Most Screen-to-stage adaptations are based on "classic" films (1 decade or older), but Shrek was done within a decade of the first films. Only Disney have released their adaptations sooner...

Watching the musical on Netflix is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I have such a hard time picturing what a shrek the musical on broadway would look like without that original staging. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, but my dream is to see an adaptation of Shrek 2. Which, in my opinion, is better suited for a musical adaptation.

^^^^This! Unless there is a massive reinterpretation like a storybook framing device, I don’t see a need for a revival especially since we have a high quality professionally filmed version. The only way I would see a fully mounted revival would be if playing Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, or Lord Farquaad is a dreamrole of a Broadway legend we haven’t met yet, who could have a revival built around them akin to Hugh Jackman’s upcoming Music Man, or  Patti Lupone and Bernadette Peters in Gypsy.

I think there is one key reason why Shrek 2 is better suited for the stage. The second act of the first Shrek film is an epic journey, which really doesn't work well on a confined stage (Frozen has the same problem, due to its similar story structure) In contrast, Shrek 2 is mostly set in the kingdom of Far Far Away and the surrounding forest. It is a smaller story, with more character development, and thus will be more effective as a theatrical musical.
