Seeing this makes we really want to see this one again. Been awhile since Chicago. Wonder what they have done to the old girl? Excited!

I will attend Friday and report back. Who else going? The cast is killing me.

Thanks for linking the video! I saw it in Chicago and am anxious to hear about any changes. I really hope they at least smoothed out the ending as to me it fell a little flat. They really seem to be balancing the line between trying to make their protagonist somewhat redeemable and acknowledging that however funny his actions were, they were wrong and hurt people. Also curious about Sarah Stiles’ characters ending (spoiler from Chicago version below)

Because to me I thought her suddenly getting confidence from sleeping with the roommate character and then losing it in 2 seconds just to make one last joke didn’t work. I feel like she should see how Michael succeeded at a role he was obviously not qualified for and actually leave with some convection to try again. I’m just so done with the “suddenly got confidence when a man revealed he liked me” trope.

Basically, no one said making a 2019 version of Tootsie would be easy, but I think they’re trying their best.

It was on tdf for a hot minute and I grabbed a ticket for next week. Wasn't really high on my list but I couldn't resist seeing Cooper and Stiles onstage. Plus a good creative team.

Just give the world Love.

I'm going Monday! Didn't see it in Chicago so I have nothing to compare it to, but I will be sure to report back with a "new eyes" perspective!

I'm going Saturday.

High hopes. Loved the movie -- and I'm old enough to have seen it in the theaters.

I think there's a separate thread for this now, but I couldn't find it. If someone can point me to, I'll gladly re-post there. In the meantime, for anyone familiar with the Marquis theater, what are the sight lines like from the 5th row/Right Orchestra? The seats are the first two off the aisle. Too close? Thanks in advance for your input!

Weird that no songs have been released or previewed. I don’t know what the show’s sound is at all but I’m excited to find out.

Loved this in Chicago, and considering seeing it again in the future.  Will depend on how different the show is.  Still, really rooting for this one, and hope the Marquis Theater can have a long-running hit.  Expect this show to get a lot of nominations come Award Time.

David Yazbek tweeted a video snippet of the overture on the night of the first preview in Chicago. It was short, but just that little bit sounded like traditional musical comedy fare, albeit in his own unique style. I heard a snippet of Sarah Stiles' act one song which, I agree based on what was said in the Chicago tryout thread, is just as funny as Model Behavior in WOTV, which it definitely favors the patter style of. Looking forward to seeing this in May.

Just got tickets to see it Saturday night via TDF, thanks for the heads up!

Has anyone sat in the mezz at this theatre, I’m assuming that’s where TDF will be looking at availability.

I saw Tootsie 3x in Chicago (and posted my thoughts in another thread). Noted a handful of changes during that run. Very curious what’s been revised for NY. I thought it was absolutely hysterical with only a few things i felt could be improved.

I’m in the same boat. I was lucky enough to see it twice (once with Sarah Stiles and once with Leslie Donna Flesner as Sandy), and felt the same way. The truth is that it was “broadway ready” in Chicago, and anything they’ve done to it at this point could only make it stronger. I’m in the minority in the fact that I really liked the subtle ending. I felt like it brought a good dose of realism, as it’s one of the first times Michael is truly being himself with Julie.

I am seeing it on Saturday after seeing it 5x in Chicago - how spoiled were we this year with pre-Broadway try-outs.  I really hope any changes don't break my heart the way the Cher Show did (cough cough slow version of Believe).   It's been a while but I think they played around with Sandy's ending and toward the end of the Chicago run she had a more confident conclusion.    I hope they add more NY/theatre jokes - they slowly toned these down in Chicago (for example the Gypsy Robe).  Finally, I hope they tweaked the ending - frankly I hated that last song (thank you, thank you, thank you so much).  Someone made a comment that a different version of "I Won't Let You Down" would work well at the end and I agree.

The view is very good in the mezz. What you need to watch out for the further you are towards the back, the ushers and customers do not open and shut the doors quietly, especially when people come back late from intermission.  They are big metal doors and unless they have addressed the problem, make a loud noise.  Also the ushers tend to talk very loudly during the performance.

I loved this show in Chicago.

The only thing that was a disappointment was how little Michael McGath had to do. In Chicago, he didn't even have a piece of a song. I hope they change that.

Besides changing it from "Soap Opera" to "Broadway", what else is different from the movie? I thought I read that "Julie's" Dad is not in the show. Just curious.

Setting it on Broadway didn't work for me. We've got the "Curtains" problem of too many bad numbers from the flop show-within-a-show. In both cases the lead supposedly "fixes" the show but the numbers we sit through are just as bad.
