If she doesn't like theater, she won't love The Prom.
If she’s a fan of the Temptations, I would see Ain’t Too Proud, if she’s not or just not that familiar with them I’d see the Prom.

I could change the tickets- but not sure which is a better choice- for her and for me- both."
I know that the book of ATP has received some criticism, but it was based on the book that Otis Williams helped write and so there were some constraints on Morisseau in terms of how she structured the musical. But there are some very moving elements of the story. I think it's the best jukeboxer since Jersey Boys.
The prom at least has a story, some laughs and great performances. My vote is the prom all the way. Its a fun night out.
Aint too proud feels like you are at a history lecture. And the musical numbers dont do much to break you out of it.

I haven't seen the Prom, but I don't think you can go wrong with Ain't Too Proud. If you like Motown, you should def enjoy the show.
I have seen both and The Prom is much more fun and is actually a musical that is original and fresh, it is not just another lame jukebox product to get aging baby boomers into a theater.
My vote was The Prom- my sister wanted Ain' Too Proud- since I do not see much theater with her- gonna just go with it. I would rather see Prom- when Tina comes to town with an amazing performance by Adrienne Warren- that will be a must-see- but as much as I enjoyed it in London- original musicals to me are far more interesting and creative. This will be my last jukebox musical- and I bet the trend will fade sooner rather than later- especially since they have done so many of the icons of the last 50 years- though of course there are plenty more. Actually, I also would love to see Kiss Me Kate- but my sister would slap me silly if I got tickets for that.
