Assassins dream casting |

Doyle will cast it with whoever is available at the time, and people who are willing to work for a minimal Off-Bway salary. That's not to say that the cast won't be talented, but Doyle has never "loaded his shows up with stars."
My hope is that they will cast Booth young. Booth was 27 when he {spoiler alert} shot Lincoln, and that's a MUCH different story than a guy who's 40+ (like Cerveris, Garber, and Pasquale).
But I agree, if anyone is a name, then it will probably be Booth.
I too dream of a cast of assassins who:
-Look like the people they're portraying
-Are actually the age of the people they're portraying.

It's not a documentary.
I would also like my Booth to be 181 years old. Jk.
JSquared2, so what? Assassins is based on true stories. They were real people, and they are telling real stories about these people. There's no reason that Booth or Czolgosz should be played by a middle aged men when they were really still young, and I think youth has a LOT to do with why they did what they did.
EVITA is not a documentary, but I don't want to see a menopausal woman playing someone who died at 33.
Doyle definitely never works with stars. He only has just happened to work with nobodies that are available when no one else wants them like Patti LuPone, Raul Esparza, Chita Rivera, George T, Douglas H etc. Based on this history I’m expecting Assassins to be cast with the local talent serving fries at the nearest McDonald’s or the creative team of Soul Doctor.
Please cast anyone, but Neil Patrick Harris! I do love him, but he cannot sing worth s***.

Of course, if you insist on historical accuracy about age and ethnicity, HAMILTON would never have created great theater. I have no problem with an actor with the necessary acting and singing skills singing any part he or she is suited for, whether or not it is an historical match. After all, these murderers did not sing either.
Agreed about the ages.
Maybe Lena Hall as Fromme.
Gabriel Ebert as Booth.
Jonathan Groff as Proprietor/Oswald or maybe even Hinckley, who was only college age at the time he tried to assassinate Reagan. Mmm, him and Lena Hall singing Unworthy of Your Love (aka my favorite Sondheim song ever!) together would be pure heaven!!
But I REALLY see Ross Lynch (My Friend Dahmer) as Hinckley - does anyone know if he sings? (Or like I said earlier I’d love to see Steven Boyer do it again as he was so great at City Center, but giving someone new to theatre like Lynch the chance to play Hinckley could earn them a Theatre World Award, the way it did for Alexander Geminiani back in 2004).
Jennifer Laura Thompson as Moore.
Mary Testa as Emma Goldman would be amazing, but it’s way too small of a role for her.
Joshua Henry or Conor Ryan as The Balladeer.
I dunno, just a few choices...

I'm still shocked that the Menier Chocolate Factory production never transferred to somewhere like St. Ann's. It was really phenomenal and Aaron Tveit, who I usually find bland, was a wonderful Booth.
Here I Am said: "But I REALLY see Ross Lynch (My Friend Dahmer) as Hinckley - does anyone know if he sings?"
Yeah, Ross was in Austin and Ally on The Disney Channel, where he played a pop star, so he can definitely sing, and he also was in A Chorus Line at The Hollywood Bowl, so he has a history of theatre as well.

Oh right, I totally forgot about that!
