The Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance is always one of my favorite awards since it compares all the actors across all the categories. Who do you think has a chance at it this year?

My first thoughts are: Kelli O'Hara, Bryan Cranston, Laurie Metcalf, Patrick Page or Elaine May

Any other thoughts?

Probably May, or Cranston. I thought maybe he had won for All the Way, but no.

I wouldn’t discount Jeff Daniels
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I think Cranston is your best bet followed by May and Metcalf.

Agree with Cranston, May, Metcalf (in that order), even if neither wins a Tony.

Are there any astonishingly good off-Bway performances we're forgetting? Last time someone won for a non-Broadway role was Christine Ebersole for Grey Gardens in 06.

I look forward to this one every year! IMO it's the most fun and interesting acting award in the entire theatre awards season. As far as predicting the win, I'm betting on Elaine May. Not only did she give a phenomenal, raved-about performance, but I think the League will favor her because of her age - you could argue they did the same with Glenda last year, and Chita a few years before. I'm not saying that alone is enough to get her the win, but I think that, in combination with the performance itself, will get her the win. Though I agree that Cranston is not out of the running.

As far as the nominations so, I think we all know who's in the mix from the pool of Broadway shows this season - so many amazing performances, especially in the plays. But here are some Off-Broadway performances that I think deserve to be recognized with a nomination (though I don't necessarily predict that they will):

-Michael C Hall - Thom Pain

-Edie Falco - The True

-Isabelle Huppert - The Mother

-Raul Esparza - Arturo Ui

-Debra Jo Rupp - The Cake

-Jake Gyllenhaal - A Life

-Daveed Diggs - White Noise

-Quincy Tyler Bernstine - Marys Seacole

-Zainab Jah - Boesman and Lena

-Adina Verson - Collective Rage

-Tavi Gevenson - Days pf Rage

-Abby Corrigan - Usual Girls

-Ben Turner - The jungle

-Kate Baldwin - Superhero

-Mary Winningham - Girl From the North COuntry

If Elaine May hasn't won then she should win. Her performance in The Waverly Gallery was incredible. It was just effortless. Not to mention her remarkable career over all those years. She's contributed so much.

I agree that Cranston and Daniels will definitely make the list. Both phenomenal actors giving phenomenal performances.
