Anais posted on Instagram a week ago that the show was writing locked, and Patrick posted a similar note on Saturday about the blocking and direction being frozen. The Fates even had a funny post where they were singing "Doubt Comes In" with lyrics about everything constantly changing and pleading to freeze the show. That having been said, I suppose bedazzling the umbrella is minor enough that an exception may have been made. I'm curious to see if that's what they will have tomorrow night!

"We’ve been talking about this one prop, an umbrella, and whether to go for a more glitzy, fun, really beautiful version, or go for a really classic black umbrella. I actually still don’t know, but I’m excited to see this middle thing that we’re looking at, which is this glitzy black umbrella. There’s something about the essentialism of it having to be exactly the right distillation that has been, for me, the reference point or touchstone."

I want my money back because I saw a plain black umbrella last Saturday, and the bedazzled umbrella is billed above the title!

Was there a notice on the Cast Board or a slip of paper in your Playbill? I’d get a lawyer. Claim mental anguish. HADESTOWN Previews

I could listen to/read these two talk about the show all day! And how enlightening to hear that our silly umbrella conversation reflects a real, important consideration in their mind. It's a tiny detail that's only on stage for a brief moment, but for them it's so much more. I love it!

I'm looking at getting tickets to see this show for the 2nd time on May 1st, I would love to see the full cast without understudies again. Does anyone know if any of the cast have scheduled days off now we are out of previews? or if the Tony nominations being announced on the 30th April will bring any changes the following day with cast members taking time off to recharge.

This is random to ask, I know, but being that tomorrow is their opening night, would the box office still be opening in the morning for future ticket sales? I am going into the city and was looking to get tickets in person for my birthday to avoid Ticketmaster service charges. I didn't realize tomorrow would be opening night so was not sure about the box office hours in the morning.

You should still be able to purchase future tickets at the box office.

Bedazzled, black umbrellie! And she was magnificent. Perfectly reminded me of a New Orleans funeral procession umbrella.

I have fallen in love. More later.

This is the morning-after-great-sex-with a-new-partner good. I am smiling and satisfied with a lingering wonder about me.

I will have to agree that Carney is the weak link here. His acting choices are odd and the amount of falsetto written into the score did not make for a pleasant sound and made Orpheus hard to connect with. Is he struggling? Am I missing something?

But everything else I simply loved And I mean LOVED. From the costumes and set (oh, that set in Act II!) to the actors and the musicians. So much love put into to everything. From the moment Hermes struts on to the stage, I knew this was going to be special. Andre de Shields is an utter delight. Patrick Page is commanding and sexy and scary, and utterly sensitive in his reconnection to his beautiful wife, Persephone. I cant imagine anyone else in those 3 roles, to be honest. There are so many moment when Eurydice shines, too...particularly in her vulnerabilty.

The fates and the ensemble are wor-king it! I will admit, I've been doing a lot of eye rolling over all the comments here about Timothy Hughes...but now I understand. I found myself seeking him out. Delicious and so in the moment. And can we just applaud Brian Drye on trombone?!

And after a whole lotta disapointing/mediocre shows for us (Head Over Heals; BMC; Kiss Me, Kate; The Prom; Spongebob) - what a delight.

Excuse me while I have a smoke.

PS. I NEED a new recording.

I do like reeve don't get me wrong..but the only reason he's here is damon dannao is unavailable. It's so noticeable they should put an 'at this performance..reeve' flyer every night. I hope to Christ it runs long enough for Damon to get a lengthy turn

Still not my favorite show, and I'm certain I won't buy the OBC album but...

I am VERY much looking forward to the first show where the umbrella gets applause for its entrance. I hope someone will post when it occurs!

As for: "We’ve been talking about this one prop, an umbrella, and whether to go for a more glitzy, fun, really beautiful version, or go for a really classic black umbrella."       ...Why say, "or" when you can say "and"? It's become a "thing" for the show. Patrick Page has posted about it, Chavkin and Mitchell have discussed it in an online interview. But I believe Chavkin and Mitchell's discussion of the umbrella in that interview is slightly askew.

I think it would be wrong to choose just one. I think Chavkin and Mitchell should accept the recognized element that this umbrella has organically become, and discuss the 'whens' and 'whys' of when to use one umbrella vs. another. No need to publish their reasons - just do it and let the audiences think about it.

Rant ahead.

Damon parted ways with the production years ago of his own volition. He's not Orpheus anymore, and I wish people would accept that.

I can understand people not taking to Reeve's performance, it's a valid opinion and everyone has different tastes. But there are fewer posts actually criticizing his performance than posts just consisting of "he's not Damon" or "I hope Damon comes back." It becomes exhausting to read. Damon has moved on to another project. Why can't everyone else move on, too?

The character itself is also worlds different than it was in the NYTW production. It wouldn't be the same Orpheus everyone seems to be harping on, anyway.

No ones saying damon was more involved than reeve. But he's in his broadway debut, and there's no reason to think he won't return
to the role

I 100% agree! I really love Reeve's take on Orpheus. The more naive, "touched" characterization adds another layer to the character that I adore. And yeah, he's not Damon, but his voice is still beautiful, and he gives a solid performance throughout. I thought he and Eva had amazing chemistry, and the first time they lock eyes on each other, I felt the connection. I almost wish this show didn't have a history because there would be no complaints if there was nothing to compare it to.

Overall though, the show is just simply stunning. I saw it Saturday (4/13) matinee, and I can't get the show out of my head. During "Wait For Me", my brain couldn't handle the sensory overload - it was like a theatrical orgasm. I was weepy from the minute Hermes stepped on stage. Every single person including the band gave an out of this world performance. The lighting was textured and had so much depth - it alone could have told the entire story. The set was immaculate and unlike anything I've seen before. I loved the rotating platforms, and I felt they weren't overused because each step a character took had an intention. Patrick's effortless glide really stood out to me - like he was in the control of the rotation. I could go on and on about each element that I found special and meaningful, but it would turn into a dissertation. I loved the show, and I can't wait to see it again.
