The umbrella is getting entirely way too much time. WHO CARES. It is fun when it is opened and used as a prop - black or green!

Speaking of stupidity exits x, apparently there is a mashup of Hadestown and Once on this Island in development and this is a leaked photo. Looks like a total flop to me.

In case anyone is wondering, I talked to the folks at the merch table today and they said that windowcards should be arriving any day now.

Do ANY of the parasols stage door?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

its definitely an umbrella. I was front row on 4/4 when black umbrella was on, and it looked like any generic bodega umbrella

At least last night, the black umbrella/parasol had a shaft that extended significantly past the canopy, as would be traditional in a fancy funeral parasol, but did not seem to have a huge amount of lace and fringing (I think there was some on the edge of the canopy).

I love what they've done with the staging. I'm not crazy about them removing part of Chant II (Persephone's part starting with "Take it from a woman of my age" ), at least as far as I remember.

Yes they removed it for some reason. I saw someone mentioning it so I paid extra attention to chant II during the sow, and I can confirm Persephone's part is gone completely...

Plain black umbrella is on today 4/10 matinee.

Islandtown first look looks amazing; wonder if the plain black umbrella/green umbrella will cover the rainbow umbrella pictured?

(Less importantly - really enjoying this musical!!! Fates in particular are exceptional but the whole thing is amazing)

The Fates give a really fabulous performance. I don't think it's likely given the other performances this season, but I would love to see them Tony-nominated as a trio a la the Von Trapp children or Side Show twins!

Working title is "Once under this Island" and the rumor from my friend who went to a reading is that the goat plays Hades.  The merch is pretty controversial:

I would say 'that shouldn't upset the Trans community too much' but it'll only get deleted so why bother...

Metal Detectors outside Hadestown tonight. I wonder if the umbrella negotiated this into its contract or if someone else notable is here

The umbrella is getting a little too big for its britches.

(In all seriousness though, the metal detectors have been there every night I've gone--not sure why the extra security is needed)

From what I understand from speaking with one of the security people. Jujamcyn is going to be rolling out metal detectors to all of their theaters over the next few months.

What a gigantic snooze-a-roonie!

Didn't care about anything going on to these boring mythological updates.  The characters were beyond stereotypes bordering on caricature.  The music, while interesting at first, devolves into sameness with lyrics beyond banality.  Belaboring every moment and musical line.  ENOUGH already!  Get on with it!  Or better yet, just forget it.

Tenebre said: "My take on this show as a whole is that it’s about frailties — fear, doubt, insecurity— and the self-sabotaging things that we do to protect ourselves from them. So the wall to me is not primarily a political reference, but a symbol of the futile barriers that we build to try to save ourselves from our own fears. The topicality of it might work more or less depending on your view of the relationship of politics and theater, but I think the symbol is integral to the larger theme of the piece, and the song is critical in establishing that. (However, I do agree with many that it would be better as an opening for Act II. Can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work!)"

Anyway, I loved this. As many have said, the set and lighting design was breath-taking, and I thought the orchestration was really striking— lots of unusualinstrumental techniqueandgreat use of the variety of vocal timbres. The narrative shorthand for the ingenuerelationshipwas fine with me — this is a mythical work, not naturalist — and I thought itfunny and satisfying enough that theabruptness is acknowledged in text in their meeting song. I also didn’t need Hades to be “redeemed” — he’s a complex figure, and I didn’t need him tied up in a bow.His cathartic moment in Epic III is well earned and so affecting, but there is always history. In the end it’s a sad song, a tragedy, after all.

I love this interpretation!

I echo much of what was said here. Much of the show is beautiful, mesmerizing and truly unforgettable. The show is not without its faults but overall it's really powerful. The cast overall is fantastic (though I also didn't care for Reeve) and the entire show is visually stunning. The show is really refreshing and I'm so glad I finally got to experience it. I hope to return soon and see what else I can take away from it.

They had window cards last night :)

And the black umbrella was on.

And as far as the metal detectors go, they began when Springsteen was there and it seems that they just continued with them.

So are the green and black umbrella alternating their performances. Is one the standby or understudy. Over the top billing?
