I loved it. It moved me and my 17 year old son. We first saw if from the mid-mezz, too.

Went back to see it again. Its beauty in musical form.

It was absolutely gorgeous and brimming with humanity from start to finish. I loved it both times I saw it.

The Bands Visit deserved it’s win.. except maybe Best supporting actor Bc I have no idea how that role won Tony. But that’s my personal opinion. I just think they didn’t want to give Norbert a third one so soon.

Because the solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict is the opening up of our hearts to our common humanity as expressed through music (along with lots of US tax dollars going to the Israeli arms industry and the Egyptian military).

Yes, I can explain it to you.

The show was deadly, the songs were drab and dreary, and people were bored out of their minds.

And there you have the perfect formula for garnering rave reviews and a plethora of Tony   Awards.

Whining about it doesn't diminish them. The Band's Visit won a slew of awards, not just Tonys, but from pretty much all major theatre awards bodies. And it won them both on and off Broadway. People who matter for deciding those things really liked it.

"Stop trolling."

Right.

Anyone who dares express an unfavorable thought about one of one's cherished darlings is automatically a troll.

Nice way to stifle expression.

Or not so nice.

But the show is what it is, and people see it for what it is.

And no amount of name calling can change that.

And that's good.

Well, at least in theory, ROLES don't win (shouldn't?) awards, but rather the performance. (Although I suggest the three Billy Elliot boys winning for best actor certainly SEEMED to be about the role.)

I think the trolling bit was more about it being a topic that was exhaustively discussed last June, all of which is still available for anyone to read.

Whoa, I saw this title and I thought a really old thread got revived for some reason. Guess not. But I'll bite. It's become my favorite musical so I gotta defend it.

I would say that a lot happens in this show, it's just subtle. All these characters, their lives have not turned out how they imagined and they are just muddling through. Then their unexpected meeting brings up so many buried feelings, which causes them to re-evaluate. Dina might say "it wasn't very important" but it clearly was. You can see that she lets her guard down, that Itzik and Iris start to make peace with each other, that Papi and Julia might begin a relationship, that Tewfiq starts to process his own painful past by telling Dina the truth of it and being kinder to Haled... I think it's just a very human, very relatable story. Besides which, the music is so beautiful, and it's really special to see Middle Eastern people allowed to just be regular people, not Aladdin or terrorists or refugees.

I was in a bar fight in Tulsa, round about May of last year. It all started when a guy looked at me and told me to stop looking at his woman. I said woman? I thought that was your pet monkey... and it was on. Long story short, I broke a beer bottle over his head and cut him bad with the blade I have in the toe of my boot. Police came, arrests, yada yada. At trial, even though I was defending myself from this guy, I was found guilty of assault. Which reminds me of my favorite fish and chips place, A. Salt & Battery. It's the best. But I digress. Anyhoo, the judge said, son, I think you are a good soul, loving theater and all that (I had been talking to him during recess debating whether Evan Hansen is a sociopath) so he said, I can sentence you to 60 days in the county lockup, or The Band's Visit can win a bunch of Tony Awards next month. And I said your honor, I will happily go with the second of those 2 choices.

And that's how THE BAND'S VISIT won so many Tonys.
