NASSIM |
It is wonderful and there is an article/interview in today's NY Times with the writer and Tracy Letts who performed it recently https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/15/theater/exit-tracy-letts-nassim.html
I saw it some weeks ago with Richard Kind who was great. You can't really describe it but I would urge you to go,
I saw Tatiana Maslany as the guest actor and enjoyed it very much. I think it's true that it varies quite a bit depending on who the guest actor is that night. Tatiana was clearly moved (she cried more than once during the show), and I felt that her emotional connection to the material and to Soleimanpour helped draw the audience into it as well. Some parts worked better than others (I wasn't crazy about most of the audience participation segments), but overall I thought it was a lovely, moving play. I do think the guest actor you see plays a big role in your enjoyment, though, so I recommend looking at the calendar in advance. (I chose to see someone I'm a huge fan of, and I realize that impacted my reaction.)
If you saw last year's White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, it's a similar concept. I saw both and Nassim felt like (slight theme spoiler here)
it was a personal homage to his home/country/family.
Given the premise, I didn't enjoy it as much a WRRR as I felt it didn't give the featured actor as much freedom to make it their own. It's a solid B and go if the featured actress/actor is someone you really like.

I saw this with Maria Dizzia. It was a moving evening.
They release the actor schedule a week or two beforehand. I say pick somebody whose work you admire and go see it. Really worth the time.
I was underwhelmed by it, but its certainly different, and intimate, and clever. Its emotional punch seems unearned? I saw it with Aasif Mandvi who is wonderful in general but seemed nervous and awkward here- and that felt authentic and didnt hurt the performance.
