2 show slots, not a lot to see.

I am coming to NYC for an unexpected work trip next weekend and I've seen most of what I want to see. Wondering if anyone out there can make suggestions. I am seeing Be More Chill on the Friday night which leaves 2 slots on Saturday. Of the new shows, I don't want to see Kiss Me Kate, Gary, Hadestown, or King Lear or Pretty Woman. Already saw the dreadful Ain't Too Proud.

That leaves the new Oklahoma (very hesistant), Burn This, Hillary and Clinton (also hesitant). At this rate, I'll be back at the Prom for one of the shows (I'm in the camp that thought it was really fun and entertaining).

I'd love to see Mockingbird, but the singles are all $450.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'd recommend What The Constitution Means to Me and The Ferryman. If you've seen those, I'd also recommend biting the bullet to see either Hillary and Clinton or Oklahoma!. The latter is going to win a lot of Tonys, and it's definitely a departure on the original Oklahoma, so you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy, and safe travels!

Another one here for The Ferryman if you haven't seen it. I know Mockinbird does offer standing room as well, so that may be an option for you as well. Both productions, are simply incredible imo. Ferryman is 3 1/2 hours and 3 acts, but does fly by. Even people I know on here and in real life who didnt love the show agreed the runtime was not really an issue, its paced very well. Enjoy whichever show you choose!

lots of good stuff off-Broadway. If you haven't seen King Kong. Just do it. Not the greatest but i am glad I went.

I'd try SRO for Mockingbird since that seems to be the show you really want to see. They probably have a cancellation line too.

I liked the Cake. It's an off-bway play right now starring Debra Jo Rupp.

If I were you, I'd keep that Saturday open. I've seen The Prom five times and definitely loved it when Josh Lamon went on as Barry (I didn't even know he was an understudy for that role!) If Brooks is out that weekend, then I recommend watching the Prom again!

I haven't seen Kong. What did you like about it? Why is it worth seeing?

Well of course the Kong puppet is quite impressive. The sets and projections are also impressive. The book is not the best. The choreography is very repetitive and the songs are so so, although i loved the opening number. It felt like a show you just had to see. I met two people who were going to see it or The Prom. They don't get to town often. They felt the same. They thought that The Prom would have been better in most areas but they were glad they saw King Kong. It really is beautiful to look at. And you can say you saw it. Just grab a ticket at tkts.

I'm not sure how one arrives at a place where Gary and Hadestown are off the list, but King Kong is a maybe?!

Gonna loudly retweet The Ferryman and What the Constitution Means to Me.

You could try Mockingbird SRO and also Network SRO.

Not sure what you’ve already seen, but I highly recommend The Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish off-Broadway. You should be able to get tickets at TKTS.

Oklahoma! is really something special. Don't miss it.

Hillary and Clinton starts tomorrow so you can see some early reviews on that thread tomorrow night.

totally understand your comment, for me it's an easy one to answer: As for "Gary" let's just say Nathan Lane is not one of my favourites, and Hades -I walked out of Great Comet and I don't like any of the music I've heard from Hades so far. In addition, comments for both so far (Hadestown from previous productions but still) are mixed to negative.

You’re entitled to see what you want to see, no apologies. I personally think that there is an abundance of shows to see between what’s already playing and what is opening soon. I also perceive the chatter on the Gary previews thread to range from mixed to positive, but if you know you are not a fan of Lane’s acting then you’re smart to steer clear.

I'd still rather revisit something I like and saw before than start mulling over King Kong, heh. Or look Off-Broadway. Or see something at 54 Below. Or fly home early. Or see any of the other plays you mentioned.

Go to The Prom and then My Fair Lady or Merrily?

Expand your horizons. As previously mentioned, there's a lot to see off Broadway now that's new, relevant and fun.
The Cake
We Are The Tigers
If Ugly Hurts...
are a few faves.
