What is the deal with the current Playbill? I’ve seen one that is only John and another that is only Laurie. They can’t possibly have two Playbills, can they?

THANK YOU. Fanfic. That’s exactly what I was trying to come up with to describe this unnecessary play.

Context question: How much of the play goes into the actual night of the New Hampshire primary in 2008? I was in southern New Hampshire that night, voted, and was at an Obama rally where he gave his famous "Yes We Can" speech. It's was a pretty memorable and important night for New Hampshire and myself.

I'm seeing this next week and was wondering if the play goes into what was going on or if it just uses the nation's first primary date and location in 2008 as part of its setting.

Seems like it. This whole show is so odd to me. The premise, the A-List talent, odd playbills, virtually no set, Im just not sure where the inspiration for this came from.

Someone on Twitter hinted at another Laurie play coming into the Golden next year. Does anyone have any inside info on this? Maybe it's Death of a Salesman?

I pray the Nathan Lane/Laurie Metcalf revival of this is finally happening! The Golden is so intimate too it'd be great to see the show there.

Is it really? Is this different word from that original rumor from last year?

There are three different playbills. One with both of them facing each other and then 2 different ones with only one of them on the cover.

So I don't get how this works. Do they hand out all 3? A specific cover on a specific night? Let you choose? seems so weird to me

Thats just odd to me, but oh well. I think this show lost my interest when I heard it was fictional. Why would I want to see a fictional story about 2 very much alive people who are still somewhat politically active? Im sure the performances are outstanding, but it almost feels too early for a play like this. Not that Im saying Hillary will ever run again but its not like their political career is completely over yet. Seems so soon for something like this, just feels out of place.

And you rightly think at least some of us with more ambiguous feelings feeling about Hillary, and what’s more also about Bill, might find in this play a probing yet tender challenge to our entrenched assumptions, particularly about Hillary and who she is.

I did. I found the play provocative, cathartic and even eye opening. It got me reconsidering a great many things. It by no means sanitizesHillary Clinton. Itilluminates her.

That illumination becomes her. And beguiles me.
"

Totally agree with everything stated here.  This play provoked many thoughts and emotions I have felt about both Clintons for the past decades and found  myself thinking about the people not just the politicians after seeing this play.  I heartedly concur that this is Metcalf’s  play.  Watching her evolve in recent years to one of the best actresses in any medium today has been a pleasure and today’s show just confirmed that for me.  She portrayed every range of emotion, anger, hurt, insecurity, strength that you could imagine.  Lithgow is solid as usual.

I don’t agree that the writing is thin, I actually think the writing provided wonderful insight and depth into a public figure who has struggled to find her own identity in the shadow of a much more popular but flawed husband.  Except for the quality of the acting which was never in doubt, I wasn’t sure I would like this play when I bought the tickets but I loved it.

I went to today’s show and my Playbill has Laurie on it and my dates had John. I would have like them both on the cover though.

So it would appear that Salesman is not happening next season, as Metcalf and Mantello are teaming up yet again for Woolf. I wonder if the wires were crossed all along, and perhaps Mantello wanted Lane and Metcalf to do Virigina Woolf together?

Or, we will be getting this long-gestating production of Salesman in two seasons time?

Maybe it's because I love Hillary, maybe it's because I love Laurie, but great God did I love Hillary and Clinton. It was an Albee-esque firecracker of play with delicious quips and poignant moments. I laughed through the whole evening yet cried myself to sleep, thinking about another universe I'd rather live in than the one we live in now. And I absolutely loved the framing device of a coin flip.

I went in expecting to be yet again awed by the great Laurie Metcalf, and I was, but I was also floored by John Lithgow. They are really giving some career defining performances here, especially Laurie. It's the best thing I've ever seen her in. Without imitating Bill and Hill, they truly give the essence of the people they played. Their chemistry was off the charts.

This was a deeply personal play and frankly I felt like I shouldn't have witnessed some of the things they said to each other. I wonder if the real Clintons might find this play a little intrusive. If I can give one critique, it's that it made the dark moments of their relationship the average. I would have liked to see them have a few more loving moments together.

I just went crazy for this show. I really hope it gets the raves it deserves.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I guess on the last day of previews... what's the harm? Just got rush tickets for Hillary and Clinton. Row B (front row), seats 102 and 103. I tried looking at pictures of the house/set to get an idea of whether or not these are partial view, but can't really figure it out. Any insight? I know it's too late to worry about it now, but I'd like to set my expectations ahead of time.

Thanks!

Based on your seat number, you are towards the aisle, so you may miss a bit from stage left. But luckily the stage is low, so you shouldn't have too much of an issue.

Didn't see this posted:

For those who want to see this and can wait, the Actors Fund is having a midnight benefit performance on May 16th (Thursday night).

Always enjoy the midnight Actor's Fund benefits, though I miss the open bar they had at...was it Doll House Part II?

Never do get to use my newspaper, toast, or rice, though.
