Little did he know he will lead the musical revival, albeit singing other songs instead --

If they're hyping it this much, watch it be Brooke Shields....

The person who claimed to have inside knowledge is the one who first mentioned the Sutton Foster rumor. The Hollywood Reporter interview with Rudin said Marian casting would be announced "in the coming weeks."

I still think it would be fun to see Kristin Chenoweth do the part, so we could see her do the role  beside someone else other than the extremely untalented, dead body known as Matthew Broderick (Blahderick). Seriously? Are people still so infatuated with Ferris Bueller that they would hire this void?

Now living in DC. I really have to change my name on the board.

It is not Laura Osnes or Sutton.

This is nice and all, but it's like I told the Bernie Sanders people when they texted asking for my support... this seems very early to get excited about something for 2020. Let's talk later...

Why "unnecessary", SweetLips? That Matthew Broderick made a preposterously blah Harold Hill is just stating a fact. I like a lot of his work, but his enervated traveling salesman wouldn't have sold a single uniform, much less started a mass panic over a pool hall.

I do not think the references were directed to his performance in The Music Man but to the man in general.

'untalented, dead body, blahderick, void' might seem to some as amusing, I feel unnecessary.

I do hope you're right that it's not Sutton. Someone on here is pretty sure it is.

I was the one that initially posted that, and as well as the stipulation that it be taken with a lot of salt.

Or anyone with a little more edge for Harold --

Have you seen some of Hugh's film portrayals like Prisoners, The Prestige, or Logan? Or even Pan?  Maybe even his interpretation of Valjean in the film adaptation of Les Miserables?  And his portrayal of a slick con man in the little known Deception with Michelle Williams & Ewan MacGregor which was chilling? I don't even talk of his badass portrayals of Wolverine, save for Logan because that was more dramatic and dealt with his prickly relationship with unknown daughter Laura.

I love Shirley Jones' voice in that role.  She had a purity and sweetness that is so different from the brassy bellowing of today's post-ingenue wannabes.

Apparently the actress playing Marian is someone who hasn’t been seen on Broadway in several years. I would love to see (and hear) Megan Hilty play the part, or Anika Noni Rose.

I never involve myself in casting discussions with those more knowledgeable, but someone has to say it.

If they want to go younger, which they often do, how about Broadways Breakout Star, (so I've been reading) who even sounds quite a bit like Kristin, Stephanie Styles? She would be almost 30 by showtime.

I've only seen Osnes and that was Bandstand and Pimpernel concert at Linc Ctr.  Hope Rudin doesn't pick her.  She's pretty and has a nice voice, but her performances always reminded me of a beauty queen contestant performing her talent number.  Not much depth.

Somehow I can't see her as Marian, the "sadder but wiser girl."

Having seen this clip, Chenoweth and Jackman will have folks camping outside the theater for tickets. And it wouldn't surprise me if Rudin set the price at $700+ ala Ham & Springsteen for premium seats.

I’d love to see Megan Hilty get cast for this. Idk, it feels like her acting / Broadway career has stalled somewhat the last year or so. But she’s moved to LA and is raising a young family, so maybe isn’t actively looking for Broadway roles right now.

Good to know Sweetlips. I thought the producer selected the cast. He seems to get his fingers into everything.

I understand now, thanks. To me, THE MUSIC MAN was a huge misstep for Broderick and to this day I don't know what anyone involved (including the star) was thinking. But I like Broderick's other film work, even though I have to admit I've never seen him live.
