I can’t picture Sutton Foster as Marian, but I love her so much and I can never say no to seeing her!

I believe Laura posted a message that all but stated she will be Marian.

Audra McDonald would be a great Marian opposite Hugh.

I'm just going to put it out there that I think Melissa Errico would be pretty perfect opposite Hugh Jackman, she would sing the score with great depth, and she would capture the character's introversion and nuance better than most of the women mentioned in this thread. And with Jackman in the lead, you don't really need another bankable name in the cast, do you?

"Relax, no auditions/offers have happened. Just had to put it out there & reiterate what I’ve been saying since I played Amaryllis in 3rd grade..."

It's NOT Laura Osnes.

I've heard Sutton from a couple of reliable industry friends. But who knows.

Sutton may make a decent Marian, but Kate Baldwin would have been divine.

Sutton Foster cannot sing this role. She doesn’t have the range and I do not care to hear that nasally twang ruin these songs.

Baldwin would try be divine in this... that voice ...

I definitely think that Kate Baldwin would be the most excellent choice.

Mr Jackman will audition and cast whoever he wants for Marion-end of story.

Rondi Reed as Mrs. Shinn

Michael McCormick as Mayor Shinn

I wonder if 2021 Tony award for best actor in a leading role musical is pretty much a lock for Hugh Jackman (similar to how it was a lock for Bette Midler two years ago.)

Don't watch the show then, love. Sutton can sing the role. I'm looking forward to this.

Sutton Foster is wonderful, but she’s a belter, and even the Think Method won’t turn her into the soprano The Music Man requires.

I mean, it’s not like Sutton doesn’t have a head voice just because she primarily belts. It’s just a part of her voice that she’s very rarely asked to use. I’m sure she has the range based on how high she’s been known to belt/mix, it’s really more a question of the quality of her soprano.

Sutton could not be more wrong for that part.

This. Remember how beautiful Jessie's soprano turned out to be in Carousel? Her parts in "If I Loved You" still breaks my heart.

This announcement was basically "try to top us" for Best Actor and Best Revival. But you never know what will happen. It's too early to speculate what else could be opening that season. (Jamie?)

Jamie isn't a revival.

I agree, she would be wonderful in this.  She was great in the Kennedy Center production.

I'm curious as to where the ticket prices will start?  Do you think Hugh is bigger then Bette and will be even higher in price or about the same as Bette?  I do think that tickets prices have gotten a little outrageous - and I understand there are a lot of people to pay - but it's almost becoming a destination rather then a night out.  In London you can see just as big of stars for 1/2 the price of Broadway - all right I'll stop my picking and pecking...

Child of Earth, I can't see LMM. He's just too cute and nice looking to be a swindler.  As one Ham reviewer wrote, LMM is the kind of man you bring home to meet your mother whereas Javier Munoz was someone you'd sneak up the back door!

Child of Earth, The Wash DC production in early Feb had Jesse Mueller as Miriam. She was great and was a Scott Rudin cast member in Carousel.  I would be surprised if they didn't ask her, unless she's busy.

Love the Kate Baldwin idea. Also Audra as others have suggested was my first thought.

I do agree no matter who they pick they are better off going on the older side against Jackman. Someone who reads 30s at least. I mean yeah it's unlikely she;'d have a 10 year old brother but pretty much every Marian is past the odds of having a 10 year old brother.

I love Sutton Foster and while I'm sure she has the range for it I'm wondering if her voice type would fit Marian. Also (and I hope I'd be wrong about this) I feel like I can see EXACTLY how she'd play the role and it just doesn't quite sit right. But if she's Marian I'd be delighted to be wrong because she is a joy to watch.
