I thought it was a beautiful evening, started with a new episode of the [title of show] show!
standing ovation after Die Vampire Die and A Way Back To Then.
Some updated lyrics here and there including a whole bunch of additions to the movies list during An Original Musical
Some key changes were noticible and it seemed a few rewritten lyrics throughout
And during Nine Peoples Favorite Thing they showed photos from a bunch of productions that have happened since the show closed on Broadway (and a hilarious photo of Lin Manuel Miranda and Susan Blackwell giving the middle finger, which stayed up for a LONG TIME)
I didn't expect to get as emotional as I did. I forgot how good the show already was. But on top of that, I think the lyrics also take on new meaning for this group of incredibly talented people. When Hunter was talking about this show being his meal ticket, when Jeff talked about if caring about the show too much would set him up for disappointment, when Heidi talked about being the mold, and when Susan talked about the vampire of despair, you could feel all of them getting choked up. The use of the projection screens for the posters of regional and school productions during Nine People's Favorite Thing was so lovely. I definitely shed more tears than I expected to. Glad I didn't miss this.
I saw the show several times Off-Broadway but only once on Broadway. Since the Off-Broadway version was the one they recorded, and since there were quite a few changes for Broadway, it was a thrill to see that version again.
There was just something very beautiful and resonant about seeing them inhabit themselves 10 years later.
Plus, it was so hot in there that it doubled as a trip to the sauna!
Last night was amazing. They all looked and sounded fantastic and it was extremely emotional. The energy was palpable. This show means a lot to the people who love it and I was so happy to see it again with these four lovable goofballs.
