TDF ticket prices???#1

I recently purchased a ticket on TDF, and paid more for the ticket than what the price was on the actual ticket. Can someone explain this to me?

TDF has service fees, so the price you pay will always be more than the face value of the ticket but you’re usually still getting a substantial discount from what the ticket would be originally. I recently purchased a ticket for The Cher Show on TDF and paid $53 ($49 plus $4 fee). The seat location was orchestra row C, seat 2. The face value printed on the ticket was $44, but I looked on Ticketmaster and that seat is classified as premium so it would be $249 if purchased at the box office or on Tickermaster.

That happened to me at the Irish Rep one time. It was only a $2 difference before the TDF service fee ($3), and I figured their own online service fee would have been around $5 anyways, so I didn't say anything. (And the view was perfectly fine.) Presumably they pre-print their tickets, and "seating is at the discretion of the venue."

speaking from experience managing box offices:

This likely has to do with whatever amount the theater is being paid for the ticket. For example: if I list a show on TDF with full price tickets at $50, TDF will sell them for $25 (plus their $4 service fee on your order). But even though they are being sold for $25, the box office doesn't get that full amount. I get $21.

Depending on what the setup is with the ticketing system being used, the price type for the tickets may print out as $21, since that is what TDF will eventually pay the box office. Even though you paid $25 for it.
