Berkeley Playhouse announced their lineup today. (Not sure how to categorize them - Community? Local? They're a step down from more professional regional theaters like Berkeley Rep, but do a solid job at classics and attract a lot of families)

One title is TBD, and will be announced officially on September 1st. The description is,  "Berkeley Playhouse's April 2020 production is a soaring and electric show by one of America's most beloved theater creators, and has been on the wish list for years!"

A mystery always gets me interested Trying to guess a local theater's Trying to figure out what can't officially be announced yet (likely due to licensing restrictions), but falls into this category. Any great thoughts?

Sounds like In The Heights
(soaring, America's most beloved theater creators)

Billy Elliot doesn't have an American creator.

They actually did a production of Billy Elliot a few years ago, so that's out.

In the Heights would make sense, now that you mentioned it.

When licensing companies like MTI sell the rights to shows, is there any kind of "pecking order" as to who gets them first, or how many theaters in an area can have them within a certain time? It felt like at least 3 or so Bay Area theaters did In the Heights in the last year, which makes me wonder how many times a show can be done in a region within a certain time frame.

Where does it say he's American?  It says "by one of America's most beloved theatre creators". Americans love Elton John.

I know --- reading is hard for some people.

So much for the theater trying to keep it a secret! I saw In the Heights at Woodminster Amphitheater in Oakland last year, but depending on what I'm doing in April 2020, I could probably be talked into seeing another production Trying to guess a local theater's

Thanks for your input, everyone, that was fun.

Sometimes the licensing companies totally give it away. It's great fun.

Sorry jsquared...the phrasing DOES indicate an American.

In The Heights is the opposite of electric, though. They literally lose power during it.
