If a film adaptation ends up happening could she 1) get an eighth nomination and 2) finally win?

Maybe she needs a role like Laurie Metcalf in Lady Bird, or a second-lead role that could be considered Supporting, so she can win with category fraud.
I have this crappy feeling that the Sunset film won’t be made with her after this (even though she won the SAG and Golden Globe). Had she won I’m sure it would be green lit, since they have been pushing for this since the original production.
Oh, well. I hope we get a musical film version of Sunset sometime in the future. Obviously I’m biased.
Any chance for getting the SUNSET BLVD film adaptation going was killed last night with Close’s Oscar loss. Had she won, I’m sure things would have gone into motion quickly.
I really enjoyed her role in "The Wife." I was actually rooting for her to win. I think that more Oscar voters went ahead with the flashier film with known stars, rather than vote for an independent film with one star. I was so upset, I put the winner's acceptance speech on mute.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

But the winner wasn't one of the known stars?! Why would they give her an award because her co-stars were famous?
It's funny to read American's comments online regarding Olivia's win. I doubt it was a movie that appealed to an American demographic and Olivia wouldn't be well known or regarded in America because she isn't a huge movie star.
However, she deserved the win, she is a fantastic actress and has a fantastic body of work behind her. Check out Broadchurch on streaming sites.
I also would have loved Close to win but I didn't see the movie and it's more so based on admiration for a lifetime of great performances but even Close said she wanted to win on merit.
I do hope Sunset is made and with a great director Close could get her Oscar, just keep Webber away. I saw Close in London and I just didn't enjoy the performance she was just back in after her back problem and the part concert staging just didn't engage me. I grew up with the Patti cd and for me Patti will always be Norma.
...are we rooting for a Sunset Blvd adaptation because of Glenn Close having a star vehicle or because we really want to see a Sunset Blvd adaptation?
Because, frankly, I think it is a mediocre musical that would need to overcome some major obstacles to become a film that gets even remotely well-received- number one of which is the original movie, which is an iconic, beloved triumph of American cinema and would overshadow any remake.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
No. They like dicking her around. They think it's a sport to nominate her and not give her an award. They had some real fun last night.
Seriously though, Close could maybe win with a stronger vehicle, but I don't think Sunset Boulevard is it. Even Broadway fans find the show boring.
Close in The Wife was great and award worthy and something against her usual type, but I don't expect everyone to appreciate that type of performance. They want something easy to understand and Oscar baity. Thank God Colman was the alternative though. A truly skilled actress who deserves all the accolades.
I loved The Wife- and thought Glenn should have won it on merit- did not like The Favorite- thought it was silly and it just did not draw me in. Probably Glenn will never win a competitive Oscar. Never say never- but at 71- I really doubt it.

And to add to Kad's exactly right remarks, may we take notice that 50-year-old Norma intending to play teenager Salome is ridiculous? Make that a 70-something Norma and one will have to film through gauze and vasoline and from a distance of at least 100 yards!
I know the French expression "folie a deux." We need a phrase like "folie a tout" to describe this thread.
Colman was great in The Favourite but I thought if anyone should have won Best Actress in that film it was Rachel Weisz. I thought she really made something three dimensional out of a character who on the surface is just a grasping opportunist.

You missed the best speech of the night from one of the greatest living actresses. Colman is not a big star and she wasn't in a bigger movie. Colman gave the far superior performance and the best performance of the year.
Also, I don't think Close is a particularly brilliant actress. I've seen her do good work, but I often find her to be somewhat bland and clinical in her performances. She's very good, but I don't think she's great. Honestly, if Sunset Blvd were to be made, there are other actresses that I would rather see take on the part.
If Sunset is made into a movie, maybe Sajak and Paul can write a few new songs to punch it up a little.
Glenn's ship has sailed. This was the opportunity to give her an Oscar. The Wife was brilliant because she played against type and toned done her much lauded histrionics. It was a master class. Bastards.
The Oscars suck anyhow. Less and less relevant by the year. Glenn is a multi-millionaire who works continually in marvelous projects. Ask Cuba Gooding, Marisa Tomei, Mira Sorvino and others how an Oscar has enhanced their careers. Glenn will be just fine. It's a game. Julia Roberts winning over Ellen Burstyn is another abomination.

The only things that would need to be touched up on a film adaptation of Sunset would be the ensemble scenes/numbers - do people really have problems with moments between Joe & Norma or anything that happens at the house on sunset?
People love to bring up Glenn’s age as a point, as if that doesn’t help the portrayal. 70 in 2019 is the 50 of 1950 - JLO is 50 years old, for God’s sake.
