Gaga with an Oscar. Next a tony |
One starring role in a film doesn’t mean she is ready for Broadway. The other actresses in her category are all more accomplished actresses (except possibly for Yalitza Aparicio) and were better in their respective films. I’d actually like to see Colman take on Broadway and I haven’t even seen her film yet. Gaga didn’t suck in her film, but neither she nor the film are as great as acclaimed to be. In my humble opinion, it got good notices because people expected it to suck and it didn’t. Give Gaga a few more years. Then maybe she will be ready for the stage. And if she’s not, that’s okay. It’s no slight. Not all pop stars can be Broadway stars. In fact, very, very few can. The reverse is also true. Very, very few Broadway stars can be pop stars. After Barbra, name one more who was able to transition from a successful Broadway role to a successful career in popular music.
I was really hoping we wouldn't have any of these tonight. That we'd all be able to control ourselves.
Wishful thinking, I guess.

Notice, her Oscar wasnt for performing, either.
That being said, I found her acceptance speech one of the most moving of the night. Well, maybe not the sooech itself, but her emotional reaction.

Agreed. And for some reason the first thought that came to my head was whatever she would be in...can you IMAGINE those ticket prices. What would she even be in? She was an incredible voice-there's obviously no denying that and she's one of my favorite singers. But just because she got raves for one role, that doesn't equal a Tony award winner in the making. Also...what role would she even play...or create? Would she maybe pull a Springsteen and just do some sort of concert deal? Hmmm

You're entitled to your opinion, and other people are allowed to feel differently. Not everyone will agree.
Whether or not Lady Gaga will ever perform on Broadway it's up to her but I do think there will be a Lady Gaga jukebox musical in a decade or two. Or if it's not a jukebox musical, perhaps something similar to what Springsteen did recently.

I don't know if Lady Gaga herself will be on Broadway. But I do agree with this. I could see her music lending itself well to a jukebox musical.

There is not enough money in it for her to perform on Broadway unless she did a Springsteen thing and i truly doubt that would happen.
If Lady Gaga wins a Tony Award, my hunch is it will be for writing the score to a new Broadway musical, not performing in one..

Excellent point and you are probably correct.
First, Lady Gaga’s original intentions was to be an actress. She was lead in her high school musicals and studied acting in NY including the Actors Studio. As it did with Streisand, the musical aspect of her talent is was led her career. Both Streisand and Gaga have spoken how it took their singing to finally garner the attention that eventually gave them the credibility to qualify for acting roles. To this day, Streisand NEVER considers herself a singer as this was never her initial career intentions, it was a fluke that opened the doors for her. Curious how Gaga sees things now that acting is now applied to her vast pool of talent.

After learning this I have to wonder the same thing!

exactly this. the delusions on this board are sometimes a little much.
i wouldn’t be shocked if she starred in a Broadway production by 2025. i don’t know what her next career move is but i’ve always thought Broadway was in her future.
She could do a Lady Gaga on Broadway- doing Broadway standards and classic music- and win a Tony. Would love to hear her sing all Broadway songs- she would kill it.

Given her physical pain/ailments due to her fibromyalgia, and how much prep that seemingly requires for every concert (at least from what I remember of her Netflix documentary), 8 shows a week seems rather unlikely.

I could definitely see this a la Springsteen, but I also agree with whoever on this thread said she could write a musical...that'd be intriguing!

Gurl please.
So she can play stadiums all around the world to millions of people but not step onto a Broadway stage?
You people are deluded x
Miles2Go2 said: "There is a slightly different skill set to being a pop star to being a successful Broadway musical actress. Some can do both: Bette, Barbra. By your estimation, every pop star who sells out stadiums is ready for Broadway?"
Only Bette couldn't do it, she could only play herself and it's the only thing she has ever done on Broadway is it not?
Gaga has trained in various disciplines for years before becoming a pop star and while I agree she wasn't 'amazing' in ASIB, live theatre is a completely different beast as you have audience reaction to embellish your performance.
If she did a musical I can bet her voice and amazing performance in musical numbers would more than make up for any shortcomings in the acting department if there were any.
