Previews for the Broadway premiere of Be More Chill begin this Wednesday (February 13, 2019) at the Lyceum Theatre. With music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz, Be More Chill is adapted from Ned Vizzini's young-adult novel of the same name. It is set to open officially on March 10th.

This show has had a fascinating production history and I'd be interested to hear if anything's changed from the Off-Broadway run last summer. Who's going?

Not going, but am anxious to hear reviews! This along with Aint Too Proud are likely going to be one of the last nominees for best musical so I cant wait to hear reviews!

I think the last likely nominees are Gettin the Band Back Together and Head Over Heels.

Should've been more specific. I mean the last spot of the 4 for best musical. The Prom, Tootsie and Hadestown are likely the other 3.

I’ll be there saturday night! Never been to a preview performance before and I’m very excited!

I'm hoping a digital lottery pops up for this. It's hard for me to rush as I don't live in Manhattan.

I'm also seeing this listed on TodayTix already but looks like SquipZone, Side Mezzanine and Balcony only.

Looks like they have an in-person rush policy when box office opens.

Is there SRO at Lyceum?

For the most part, as an audience member, you won't really know any difference between a preview and a "normal" performance.    (In case your excitement expected something out of the ordinary.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Except that you might see more technical issues during the previews, like the squip not properly attaching to Jeremy’s brain. I’m sure they’d get those kinks worked out by opening.

I wonder if they’ll be selling Mountain Dew at the bar.

But is it any good?

I always thought it will be like superior doughnuts. a production that should stay off broadway

I agree. I have noticed though at previews they do hand out questionnaires to the audience (in some previews) and you get to see the creative team sitting or standing at the back taking notes.

I've been to dozens of previews and I've never seen anyone ever hand out questionnaires before.

They don't always do questionnaires. I'm trying to think of the last show I heard do questionnaires and I'm drawing a blank. It's not particularly common at this point.

Like any show, that depends on who you talk to.   Look up the threads from when it was off bway last year. Some loved it, some hated it.

to anyone who’s going, can you report to me stagedoor information, like stories and things? i usually have to tell people off for condoning disgusting stan behavior and they don’t usually let up unless i have a specific story. it’s kind of a weird ask but believe me, they won’t listen otherwise

I'm not going (the subject matter doesn't interest me) but I hope it succeeds for 2 reasons: Jason Tam (I've seen him in several shows and always like his work) and the possibility of bringing a younger audience to theater.  I know other shows do that, too, but I always think it's a good thing.

Last time I got questionnaire during a preview was for Once on this Island. I'm not saying they have them at every preview but I'd think they would at some preview performances especially if they were trying out something different (in that performance of OOTI, they didn't have the rainwater during the car crash scene and had a group of school kids enter the stage during the last song.)

"fascinating production history" is the understatement of the year. How in the world did BMC get so popular so fast? I know the internet was a primary channel, but why? What is this show's X factor?

Yeah, the trajectory from a short run at a lower-profile regional theatre to unheralded cast recording to internet sensation amongst the teen stan set truly baffles me.

Seems easier to just avoid stans and avoid people condoning them.

This one seems easy enough from off-Broadway alone, though, given them harassing Gerard's girlfriend because they wanted him to be gay and in an actual relationship with George.

So you actually have the power to change the antisocial behavioral patterns of teenage stans simply by quoting random anecdotes you pull off the internet?  That's a pretty awesome power to have.

i actually have a bit of influence in the “stan” community from different things i’ve done in the newsies community, so i’ll tell you how it goes. word comes out that stagedoor is a mess, me and other murals discourage it, people weakly try to dispute it, i bring up actual stories of the night and they eventually cave. it worked for quite a few people when i had actual stories of the disrespect to kyle selig at the mg stagedoor. if it works for even just one person, that’s awful behavior that i’ve just helped stop. so, yeah, i’m gonna want a story or two.
