Anyone know Forbes' source for road grosses? I haven't noticed them published regularly since variety stopped reporting them in 2012.

 

Wonder just how massive the Hamilton road grosses are when they play mega-houses like the Fox in St Louis and Atlanta? In the old days there would have been congratulation ads and news releases, but with what I'm sure are massive numbers maybe its an embarrassment of riches (literally).

Are the Variety grosses still available online? I wonder why they're no longer reported! (Not really sure, though, why the Broadway grosses are reported).

Also, I'm sure that Hamilton's road grosses are insane, especially around the holidays. Even with a lower average ticket price, it must still be cleaning up!

load-in and out, plus transportation, plus the housing and per diem would be the significant ones

Or on the other side of that coin, whether it’s a four-wall deal, a terms deal, a guarantee/back-end split engagement which will all affect how much money the producers will be taking home in each city.  I highly doubt something like Hamilton is on a guarantee, though.  They probably have a very favorable terms deal cause they know they’ll sell out with astronomical numbers.

Aren't overall the expenses of a tour less than on Bway?

I'm curious about the house side of the equation for tours.
(Not unrelated to the fact that our union is in contract negotiations with our local presenter).

I know that HogansHero's "there are no rules" is especially true when it comes to tour agreements with the presenters, but as a rule....

- Are rent agreements with the productions similar to most Broadway leases where there's a fixed charge, but also a part that increases the cost as more tickets are sold?

- Our company also prints and manages ticket sales in-house. Do services usually charge a percentage or a flat fee per ticket? As ticket prices increase, do the charges for handling them also go up?

As Hogan stated, there are many additional expenses related to a tour, but other items are less than New York's high cost of everything. (for example a lower cost SET Equity contract vs Production Contract on Broadway). 

zainmax--the weekly guarantee for a tour usually is less than the shows broadway breakeven--but that is only the amount the local presenter guarantees to the show itself before all the local costs, which can huge (and vary greatly from market to market)

MarkBearSF--my understanding is that most tours have a guarantee with a very complicated overage agreement with the local presenter (who may or may not own/run the theatre). Exceptions may include extended engagements and pre-broadway tryouts. Ticketing agreements are usually with the building.

But there are no rules. When I toured with the circus, every week was different. Flat rental percentage, percentage plus a variable list of actual expense (which are subjective themself--like $2,500 so we could sell lemonade at our own concession stands), co-production agreements with shared publicity expenses, really old contracts with tons of amendments from all the years. The contract could be 2 pages or 50 pages.
