Heading back to Chicago in May for some great food and exceptional theater. Definitely planning Cromer’s Next to Normal, WSS at the Lyric Opera, and Robert Fall’s The Winter’s Tale at the Goodman. Tentively thning of Esparza’s Hamlet as well. Anything else I should be looking at?
August Rush at the paramount in Aurora and Matilda at Drury Lane in Oak Brook both seem promising.

They’re a trek, yeah. It’s pretty easy getting to them via the Metra. Perhaps you should wait till reviews come out to see if it’s worth going to them. The Children at Steppenwolf seems like it will be good.

I thought you meant "Chicago" posters. My mistake.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Hello everyone...heading to Chicago in a few weeks and have a couple of spots still available. If anything new has jumped out in recent weeks, please let me know.
Hard to reply without knowing your trip dates but the Falsettos tour and SIX he Musical will both be in Chicago in May. Both have been well received so far in other cities.
August Rush at Paramount is about as far away and easy to get to via Metra as Next to Normal at Writer's Theatre. Admissions at Theater Wit has been extended through May 26. Though it doesn't have Esparza, Hamlet at Shakepeare Theatre is a solid production worth seeing. I also enjoyed Little Shop of Horrors at Mercury Theatre. And though I haven;t seen it yet, Porchlight's production of A Chorus Line at the Ruth Page Center got good reviews.

I'm visiting Chicago in May as well. Shows I'll be seeing are: - Next to Normal (David Cromer) - Queen of the Mist - A rare production of the LaChiusa musical. I'm a LaChiusa fan and was impressed with Firebrand's Caroline or Change last year. I planned this trip around it. But be warned that it might not be your taste if you haven't seen/listened to any of his works. You can give the Off-Broadway cast recording a listen first. - SIX - the London sensation - Drunk Shakespeare - They have late night performances and fit perfectly in my tight schedule. I'll never see it in my New York trips, even though it has that Critic's Pick stamp from NYT.
Also Falsettos is touring there. But I'll wait for it in DC. Hope these are helpful.
August Rush. Paramount Aurora. It is at least 45 to 1 hour drive from Chicago. I am seeing it on the 26th May 1p Sunday I am looking forward to this. If you are here around this time you can ride with us.
Chicago the Musical will also be part of Broadway in Chicago. I think its 2nd week of May .... definitely check out Chicago Shakespeare's Hamlet and Six, in Navy Pier.
Check out Hottix.com for discounted show tickets at least 50%. Sells tickets ahead of time. Great for weeknights. Save money and buy it downtown outlet with no extra fees.
I didn't particularly care for the Chicago Shakes Hamlet (I've seen many a Hamlet over the years and this one felt scattered from a directorial standpoint, although some strong performances within it). I'm pretty intrigued by Six- it looks to be pretty fun, and the music is really great pop.
I've heard great things about Porchlight's A Chorus Line and Shattered Globe's Hannah and Martin. I'm looking forward to Firebrand's Queen of the Mist as well as Ms. Blakk for President at Steppenwolf. For something completely different, Windy City Playhouse is running two very solid productions right now--Noises Off and an immersive play called Southern Gothic, now in its second year.
Otherwise, most of the really exciting stuff right now has already been mentioned in this thread. Definitely the things I'm most excited to see this month are Next to Normal, Hamlet, The Winter's Tale, and West Side Story.
