I recently watched the movie of Beetlejuice and I was SO curious as to how it will translate to the stage. But I've also been hearing amazing things about Hadestown. If you had to choose one, which one would you see?

HADESTOWN, a million times over Beetlejuice.

Read the older Beetlejuice thread from the DC tryout to get an idea of what the show is like, you should be able to find it with the search tool.

Hadestown!!!

Here's a review of Beetlejuice (though, apparently the team has been doing substantial work to try to improve the show) https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/theater_dance/the-new-beetlejuice-musical-is-overcaffeinated-overstuffed-and-virtually-charmless/2018/11/04/66b21146-dfe3-11e8-b732-3c72cbf131f2_story.html

I saw Beetlejuice in DC, it needs some work.   Great sets, costumes, special effects.  Weak score.

Hadestown is coming in with rave reviews.

But, it does sound like these are two totally different shows, so it will also depend on your personal tastes.

Hadestown is definitely my new favourite, and will always have my vote. It has generally more promising reviews than beetlejuice though the consensus seems to be that beetlejuice is promising.

I would research both shows and pick the one that appeals to you more.

Having seen both, this question reads like: "Should I eat a steak and lobster dinner or three-day-old horse poop?"

Hadestown, every day.  Beetlejuice is one of the worst shows I have ever seen out of town.  (Although, yes, great sets/costumes.)

I haven't seen either show but am siding with Hadestown since it has had more time to be edited/improved.

Beetlejuice premiered in DC last fall.

Hadestown premiered in NYC off-bway back in spring 2016, then went to Edmonton in 2017, then went to National Theatre in the West End UK (just had its last performance this past weekend.)

Having seen Hadestown at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, in Edmonton in December of 2017, and in London at the National Theatre this November, all I can say is that what was originally an incredible production has only gotten better! I can not wait to see the final modifications made for Broadway! Anais Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin have created a moving and beautiful piece of theater.
