‘Playing Nancy’ - Groundhog Day#1

At the time, this song seemed completely out of place - a bizarre focus on a character wed never heard from before or cared about. In hindsight, it strongly captures a major social issue right now.

Now, I cant say it would have saved the show - but do you think audiences would have had a different reaction to the song and show now?

Kind of reminds me of the Wall song in Hadestown. I definitely think audiences are resonating more with this song and show that they would be without Trump. (The song was written pre-Trump, but the timing is perfect).
"It’s the fractured quality in [Bernadette Peters'] singing voice and line readings that puts across the character as someone for whom resentment is sliding into madness." - NYtimes on Follies (2011).

Out of context of the show maybe, but in the show its still a showstopper and not in a good way.

I love the song. its the only one I have downloaded from that entire soundtrack. I think the song was meant to be the act 2 opener throwaway (it opened act 2 right?) but I agree the lyrics seems eerily fitting for this time
