I'm really glad it all worked out as well! Yes the box office guy at the Golden was really nice when my friends and I did rush back several weeks ago.

Absolutely. The person on the phone for Telecharge is a person on the phone for Telecharge. The person at the theater has some ownership, some pride in the production, and when youre face to face they have a stake in you. The guy at the Golden (I wish I got his name but by the time I was at the window we were really the last impediment to the show starting) really didnt want to turn me away. He was great.
As Ive said I think this was exactly the way it should be handled except for the Telecharge people telling me that they are postdating except on weekends when the truth was that they were post dating THAT WEEK during the week and not after. I think that in the last week of the production a person who paid good money to see it and missed because of a medical emergency should be able to sit in an empty seat AS LONG AS THERE IS ONE. And the fact that I paid full orchestra price and eventually saw the show from the rear Mezz - thats on me, not them. Id have been happy to lean on a wall behind the rear Mezz. Just glad to have been allowed in the building, especially for this marvelous production.
This was handled by the theater as well as it possibly could be. In the end it restores my attitude toward buying tix in advance even at full price for a play that I really want to see and that I would like to see succeed, even though we all know in 2019 that if you live in the city you can hop over on a Tuesday night and see most any play (play, not musical) for less than face value if you pick your spot. But if thats the way every ticket gets sold, soon there wont be any shows to buy tickets to.
Bottom line is that when a cast and a playwright like this come along you have to get yourself there one way or another before its too late. Its why were so lucky to be here.

On a Tuesday night, you can see almost any play OR musical for less than face value. Actually, with the exception of Hamilton, the hottest tickets on Broadway right now are plays (Mockingbird, Network, Harry Potter). There's absolutely nothing wrong with buying in advance, especially since most of us won't be involved in emergency surgery, and will have time to call Telecharge and change our date before the show if we need to. I've moved my dates/seats many times, and I've never had a problem with Telecharge. In fact, they're usually very pleasant and helpful.

Personally, I was a little put off by your attitude that you were ENTITLED to see the show after the fact, regardless of the reason you missed it, or the price you paid. Creating a thread to publicly chastise a business for doing something they had every right to do was petty, in my opinion. You're very fortunate that you were able to see the show, since, technically, they didn't need to allow it. The theatre afforded you a courtesy that you didn't necessarily deserve.

Glad you got to see it. It was my favorite of the 5 shows I saw a few weekends ago. It also hit very close home to me as y mom has dementia (I had just moved her from assisted living to Medicaid-approved facility two days prior). But lots of unexpected laughs as well. I cant stop thinking about this magnificent production.

I do agree with CT2NYC that the OP had a bit of an entitlement issue, particular when saying "As Ive said I think this was exactly the way it should be handled." Actually, Post dating is a courtesy, not an obligation. The performance was not cancelled, so the theater (or producer) has no obligation to you if you miss a performance. The past dating policies are pretty standard, and while there are always exceptions, they don't change. Past dating is an invitation by the theater landlord to return to see the show at no charge. The "new" date can only be requested the day of the "new" performance, not in advance. The "new" date can only be a weekday performance which has unsold seats available, and would likely not sell out by performance time (determined by the box office at the time the request is made). 

If you show up in-person without calling in advance, the house manager will always attempt to accommodate (even if it is a weekend performance). But calling Telecharge/Box Office, and the rules will be strictly adhered to. This is mainly because in-person, since it is closer to the performance time, it is much easier to assess whether or not there are available seats. However, the risk is travelling to the theater and not being accommodated.

The OP changed the subject thanking Waverly Gallery/Shubert/Golden Theatre for this great evening, but I really wish he stuck to the original "Shubert not postdating for Waverly? Really?!" to show the great sense of entitlement that precluded being able to be let into the show, including his "that's how it should've been done" as he was finally let in. I mean, I'm glad he got to see it. but wow, but wow. The nerve.

At least you guys are allowed to post date tickets, buy in Australia miss the show and that’s it money gone
