FYRE Documentaries (Netflix and Hulu)#1

Has anyone watched either of these yet? I watched the Netflix one twice yesterday and... hooooh boy was that crazy. What an insane story.

I feel conflicted about my reactions to it. On the one hand, the tragedy of what happened to all the workers left in the dust by Billy McFarland is horrible. On the other, watching a bunch of influencers and spoiled rich kids flocking to a festival they know nearly nothing about (despite having spent thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands, to be there) and then getting stranded and devolving into basically Lord of the Flies is truly schadenfreude at its finest.

I havent watched the Hulu one yet, but havent heard nearly as much buzz. Ive heard the Hulu producers paid Billy a pretty hefty amount to be interviewed, which... is morally pretty reprehensible. Granted, one of the producers of the Netflix doc is F*ckJerry, the marketing team involved in Fyre, but that felt more like a necessity since they own the footage used to create the doc at all. And if the festival had gone well, the doc would have been entirely different so they had their hand in it either way.

My heart went out to all the people from the island that didn't get paid. The woman who did all the cooking has I believe a GoFundMe page. When she started to cry it hit me as well.

The rest of the people got what they deserved.

I still have to watch the Hulu one as well.

Ive only watched the Netflix one, so Im not sure if the Hulu doc shows it differently, but they make it seem like it was such a huge news story on social media and I honest to god bareky remember this being a thing. I mean I thought it was a great doc and story to cover, but Im not sure if this was important enough to get a documentary let alone 2.

I agree my heart really went to the food vendor who didnt get paid. Last I heard the go fund me page made enough to cover all her losses and then some. I hope everyone on the island is able to find retribution, hey Netflix and Hulu should even donate to the islanders themselves.

Billy frauding investors(AND GUESTS) really intrigued me. As someone who wants to go into theatre management it really made me question how investors invest. Just something Im curious about is how stupid billy could be. Him lying to his investors just made the whole situation worse. If you project lower costs to your investors wouldnt they more likely give you less money. If billy had shared they were losing money might have the investors invested even more so theyre risk of losing all goes down?

edit: Also I can’t believe that guy was really about to go suck díck to get 4 trucks worth of Evian water.

??Jack-o-lanterns are just pumpkins who majored in musical theatre??
