I was there. I was hoping ALW would show up and do a closing night speech, but sadly it didnt happen. The show was great though and the audience filled with children was better behaved than 99% of the final show audiences Ive seen in the past ten years or so.

Thanks for the update, I appreciate it. It would have been nice if ALW would have showed up. Did they do anything special at the end, maybe an extended "jam"?  - lol. BTW - I enjoyed your comment about children's behavior at the show, glad to hear about it. It is also a compliment to the parents for making sure they behaved well at the show.

I was in London last December and saw the show "War Horse" and was quite surprised the number of children attending the show. I loved how well behaved the children were especially seeing a show like this with gunshots, explosions and serious subject.

I was there too. It was a packed house and I saw people in the SRO area. What a way to close!!! I still remember 2015-2016 season and how people were saying it would be more challenging for other shows to recoup since everyone just wanted to see Hamilton. Well, from that season at least School of Rock and Waitress both recouped.

As for the closing, I felt there was still a lot of energy. At the end there was an added jam session with the other kids who have 'graduated' from the show coming back one last time. It was great! Stage door was FREEZING but a lot of the cast members came out and the kids wore these awesome graduation caps.

This was an awesome non-Disney kids/family musical to see in NYC.

That argument was always a bit flawed, since it is actually easier to compete with something with zero availability.

It's a neverending debate. Sure it's easier to compete with something with zero availability but only if the person just wants to see any show on Broadway. However the hot ticket that season was Hamilton and I recall some people back then would much rather buy one heavily overpriced OBC Hamilton ticket from stubhub than see 3 or 4 other shows on Broadway.

Actually, the argument focused on people who did see Hamilton. Due to the exorbitant ticket prices to see Hamilton, it was argued that these ticket buyers would not be seeing other shows because they spent all their money on Hamilton tickets. No doubt it's true, but I doubt it had a noticeable effect. Most of the shows that opened that season weren't that great, or had a narrow audience in the first place.

I think more eyes were on Broadway that year than any recent year thanks to Hamilton. More people watching the Tonys, etc. I think overall it was good for business all around.
