She did Dolly better than anyone else ever could. Now the fight over the dimming of the lights can begin
One of my all time favorites. Such a unique talent. Glad we have the memories, the cast recordings, the autobiography, the documentary, the multitude of YouTube clips...and so much more to help her live on. So long, dearie!
In 1969, I saw Carol in London in her "Carol Channing and Her Ten Stouthearted Men" show. Wonderfully funny, with ten totally mismatched chorus "boys". I remember two things from that performance. First, while singing "Hello Dolly," she flubbed the lyrics and stopped the orchestra. She made a comment along the lines of "You would think that of all the songs I could get right, it would be this one". And second, she threw hands-full of fake diamond jewelry into the audience as she sang "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend". A ring landed in my lap, and I still have it it.
I will be in the audience tonight when Betty Buckley brings her "Dolly" to town. It is sure to be an emotional evening.
"Goodbye, Dolly!"
A true legend in American entertainment has passed...I was lucky enough to have spent one day with Carol Channing back in 1978 when she was touring HELLO DOLLY at the Curran Theatre, San Francisco.. As a young assistant to the producer of the theatre, Carole Shorenstein, i was tasked with spending the day with Carol as she made a return visit to her old high school Lowell in the city. Carol was most gracious to me sitting in the limo as we drove around the city, and she was truly excited to go back to her high school to a school assembly in her honor. It was something i will never forget!...R.I.P.
Very few people are true legends; Carol Channing was every inch the epitome of legendary!
Thanks for all the smiles.
(PS Thoughts to Dollypop who I know is going to be so sad today xxx)

A true legend, such a beautiful lady. I loved her spirit, her sense of playfulness and her giddiness. It was infectious. Here's to you Miss Channing!
RASPBERRIES!!!
I was privileged to see her onstage 5 times across 5 decades and she was never less than luminous. Every time, she reached out from the stage and made me feel she was there for me personally. I’ve never felt that before nor since. She leaves an indelible mark and from the outpouring of love I’ve seen across multiple platforms, she had a similar impact on many, many others. Heartfelt thanks and sincere condolences to her friends and family.
