Off-Broadway show for my friend and I? |
You may want to check out Trainspotting (based on the movie) off Broadway. It has the kind of humor and raunch that college students may like. Plus if you go on Goldstar, you may get a free ticket (since you are broke as hell) and only pay the $9 ticket fee. It is a tiny theater, so there is not a bad seat. Warning, there is alot of nudity and raunchy scenes. I liked it alot and you can't go wrong if you only pay $9.
Two things:
1. Can you give us an idea how much you want to spend? One person's cheap is another person's expensive.
2. Could I prevail on you (with a view to keeping me from going insane from your future posts
) to learn:
a. "for my friend and me"
b. "My friend and I are going"
It would be much appreciated by me not to mention the marketing department of your college.
1. We'd like to spend about 30 dollars at a max, but a little over is fine
2. I am a freshman English major, color me embarrassed!

With a budget like that, me think your best bet might be to try and show up between January 23 and February 11, and pick from shows at this URL: http://20at20.com/shows/
None are there now, but they will be later this month. You queue up at a show, and 20 minutes before show time, they sell tickets for $20. And it is exclusively off-Broadway shows.
I'd have to recommend The Other Josh Cohen in the Westside Theatre! It's a really charming show about an ordinary guy who runs into some less-than-ordinary circumstances, and it's overall just really uplifting. Also one of those musicals where the musicians are the actors, but they're absolutely fabulous in everything they do. It's $29 rush or $25 student rush (cash only, 1 per ID) day of, and when I rushed at the beginning of December I just showed up right at noon when the box office opened and there was no line.
Otherwise, something at New World Stages is always a good bet too. Jersey Boys has rush for $30 and Avenue Q has rush for $26.50 (which, if you haven't seen Avenue Q, it's the perfect college musical and might be particularly fun for an English major). If you're a Harry Potter fan, then Puffs is a fantastic play which also has student rush for $22 (1 per ID). All of these are cash only I believe.

Ill be entering lotteries the whole time Im there, but was wondering if there was anything good off-broadway. I was thinking of trying to catch Merrily We Roll Along, but was looking for other recommendations"
When is your next trip?

September. Already have tickets for Beetlejuice and Mouoin Rouge then. Currently going to miss Hadestown and Oklahoma by a few days, so I hope they extend

You certainly like planning ahead... some shows that aren't opened yet may be closed by then.

Yeah I try, but I was looking for off broadway shows the next few weeks. I was going to be here from the 3-7 on vacation to see some shows, but I’m not staying through the 25th for work. So I have a lot of open nights and was looking for some off broadway suggestions
Only thing that is interesting me off-Broadway right now is the new Colin Quinn show, if you like his comedy.

I did see that. I’m hit or miss with him, though I did enjoy the special he did on New York.
