Oklahoma or The Ferryman? |
I enjoyed both, but would probably have to pick Ferryman of the two. Not really sure you'll be going wrong with either choice, though.

Oklahoma!
I wont be surprised if The Ferryman tours.
If you've never seen any production of Oklahoma!, then I suggest watching Ferryman. I think it helps to appreciate this revival of Oklahoma! more by knowing the story or at least having watched the National Theatre recording with Hugh Jackman or the 1950s movie. This revival is very avant-garde and for the average person who has never seen Oklahoma! it may be confusing. This was the first time I saw any production of Oklahoma! and though I appreciated the acting and the songs, some of the things that were happening were quite confusing to me.

One imagines watching a movie is something the average person can sort out within five months...

The Ferryman is an extremely overhyped melodrama. I'd go with Oklahoma!.
The Ferryman has about an hour and a half of great theater sandwiched within a 3-hour play. If that math works for you, go book your seats-- the acting and staging is admirable. For us frankly, that left a long Act I and much of Act III that we couldn't wait to be done with.
Talk about overhyped, and that would be this DIRECTOR'S production of OKLAHOMA! Beyond pretentious.
Go with THE FERRYMAN, you won't be sorry.
