Don't know if there's an audience for this here, but it's an interesting bit of info regardless...

For well over 20 years, there has been a nearly annual stage musical production of the popular Japanese anime/manga Sailor Moon performed in Japan.  And now, for the first time ever, the most recent production is coming to America.  The production will be performed in Washington D.C. at the Warner Theater on March 24th at 7 PM.  Afterward, the production will be moving to New York, where it will perform at the Playstation Theater on Broadway on Friday, March 29th at 8, as well as on Saturday, March 30th with two performances at 1 and 5 PM.

For those of you who don't know, Sailor Moon is a worldwide phenomenon created by Naoko Takeuchi about a group of teen girls who protect the world (and the universe itself) by battling monsters while dressed in battle outfits that resemble Japanese schoolgirl uniforms.  The series was one of the early examples of anime being brought to America back in the mid-90s, where it developed a loyal fanbase.  The comic that inspired the anime has been reprinted numerous times, and the original anime ran for five years in Japan, where it became a national phenomenon, and it even got remade a few years ago.  There have been movies, countless merchandise, and of course, stage musicals.

The musical will be performed in the original Japanese language (presumably with subtitles on monitors), and will feature select members of the most recent musical cast.  The cast has been unfortunately dubbed Team America (which brings to mind the Trey Parker and Matt Stone puppet film), and they will perform at all dates in both Washington and New York.

I remember seeing photos of the production thinking this looked a lot better than it should have.

Sailor Moon has always had high quality live shows. This version uses animated elements on projection screens, so it's easier to tour with. It's nothing something that would easily sustain a long run, but a few dates here or there in key markets should sell just fine.

This is not going to Broadway. PlayStation Theatre is not a Broadway venue.

It's going to be on Broadway as far as the street.

Pretty misleading advertising.
