SIX: THE MUSICAL (CHICAGO / BROADWAY) |
curel1 said: "So I'm watching some Six stuff on Youtube and apparently having American accents is a dealbreaker for some commenters. I mean, I know its Youtube, so I'm not expecting the best but I'm not seeing the problem here. The message is the same but some how the integrity of the show is gone cuz they're not doing British accents? I just don't see how it's bad.."
Id rather they talk with American accents than fake it like the Hamilton West End Cast. So cringe.
I just listened to the studio recording, after reading this thread, and oh my God I love it. I haven't felt this way about a score since Great Comet. I'm going to try to see it in Chicago.
I do wonder though how much they plan on working the show from a creative perspective, instead of just tweaking it for American tastes. It reviews in Chicago, while positive do point out areas of improvement, which NYC critics will be much less forgiving towards.

Just grabbed my season tix for the ART -- first show is Six. Very excited.
Also for anyone wondering the cast comes out to sign at a makeshift barricade in the lobby by Door 1. All of the queens came out and were very gracious and giving with their time, posing for many pictures, signing merch, and just chatting with people about the show.
I honestly think this is going to be the next “it” show. The fans tonight weren’t super overwhelming at the stage door, but I definitely see the early stages of Hamilton/Dear Evan Hansen level hysteria, and it’s only been playing in Chicago for about two weeks. See it in Chicago, see it in Boston, because WHEN it transfers, you won’t be able to get a ticket.
If it transfers, do you think it'll need to cast big-named actors?

Nah, they'd probably just add a couple group songs.

Current list of reviews of Chicago production:

I hope this show gets an an actual cast recording as the demo somehow at times feels simultaneously over produced and thin.
I didn't listen to the recording until after I saw the show and while it's a decent recording, it's not nearly as dynamic as it could be. Just the bits of dialogue add so much to the humor of the show. I also think the Chicago cast sings the score better. One of the biggest surprises in the cast is Abby Mueller. I wasn't sure if she was right for it and she does seem to stand out a bit from the rest of the cast as a little more "white bread", but it ends up really working for her character and she absolutely NAILS her song.
I just scored tickets to see it again at the end of the month. I've a feeling they'll probably extend it (if they can), but it's a small venue and it's already selling out fast. With the reviews out and word of mouth, plus repeat visits like me, I think it'll quickly be a tough ticket to get.
Saw the show last week and fell in love with it! The actresses were great singers and I agree that the Abby nailed her number! Going again next month and can't wait. Hope the show continues to do well in Chicago! This is one definitely worth seeing again!

Only 2 of the latest London Cast are on the cast recording, the rest have all changed. Boleyn is probably the only one who isn't better vocally in the new cast. Her voice is a pitchy screechfest, but her comedic timing is impeccable.
They made a conscious effort to make the cast recording more like a proper pop album than a traditional cast album, hence there is no dialogue on it apart from Ex-Wives. It is a VERY well produced pop album.
If they put all the dialogue in it, there would be no point in seeing the show.
I just got tickets in the middle gallery. Which are slightly more expensive than the lower gallery? Can someone describe the house? Also.. dinner recommendations in the area?

There are restaurants on Navy Pier - but the quality is low and the prices are high. There is/was a pretty good assortment of smaller restaurants on Illinois Avenue just a couple blocks off Navy Pier.
But, really, you should just pick a restaurant and then cab/uber/lyft it over to Navy Pier.

Got it. Thank you so much for that info. It is a weird early curtain and I hear the show is short. So we might just head to Boystown after and do dinner around there.
