How a Swarm of Blinking Drones Ended Up in the Rockettes' Christmas Spectacular

Looking forward to how drones will be incorporated into future Broadway shows.

I thought they were used much better in Paramour. I heard the original plan was to have them fly over the audience in that, but the fire marshall made them restrict it to the stage.

I was thinking musical drones at first; "Well... there's one in the opening of Godspell in most productions, and several arrangements of "Crucifixion" in Superstar use a drone. If we're talking non-Western music, Bombay Dreams has a sitar drone effect in most numbers..."

He's one or two generations too old to worry about such things...

I attended the first Saturday morning show at Radio City Music Hall this past weekend to see a friend who has been a Rockette for eight years.  The show had technical difficulties at the beginning of the finale number that uses the drones and had to stop for five minutes.  She said that it's been happening a lot this season.  We never did see the drones, just the dance portion of that closing number.

You heard incorrectly. A fire marshall wouldn’t have the right to do that. Rather, it is a violation of FAA standards to fly over people, and the production would have never considered doing it in the first place.

Muse had drones flying over the audience on its last arena tour?

A quick google search shows that the FAA doesn't have authority over drones flown indoors. And according to the article below the fire marshall had to sign off on them for Paramour and the original plan was to have them go over the audience. So it appears you are the incorrect one.
