Well, it will be (or has been) for the archives.

The 1964 film version was just added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry.

I remember someone on the board said MFL has already been filmed (for archives). Not sure about if it will be released as 'Live From Lincoln Center'

I think that they will see how the London film does. It's now on BroadwayHD. If it makes any major money then they will have trouble turning the film down. But I did read that that it was easier for reasons of legal and intellectual property rights to film in London. I'm not sure myself.
A small point, but South Pacific Live From Lincoln Center was indeed a live broadcast of one show during the last week of its run. Alan Alda was the perfect host, with an interview of creatives during intermission going right through the start of the entr'acte. I believe I read in an interview with Sher that the The King and I film was stitched together from parts of four filmed shows.
Probably in the same interview Sher said that there wasn't time for a live King and I broadcast since the show closed so abruptly.
I'd like them to do the live broadcast. Negatives to this are that it may hurt attendance if people know there's going to be a live broadcast the last week and it may hurt sales of any subsequent DVD or of the rights to BroadwayHD.

I heard they were planning to film THE KING AND I for PBS when Kelli and Ken returned to the show, but then it fell apart. I hope they can film MY FAIR LADY, if there aren't a bunch of hurdles -- the estates, funding, and any issues with Warner Bros (the studio behind the original film) and Sony/Cameron Mackintosh (who had the film rights when Emma Thompson was adapting a remake).
Semi related, is Harry H-P indeed leaving in February? Any word on who will replace him?

Here is an nice interview with HHP on Lincoln Center Theater in mid-December. It doesn't sound like he's leaving any time soon. He recently took a whole month's vacation,
Honestly, my family and I love it in New York. They’re going to have to prise me out of this theater.
