Best jobs working in the theatre?#1

Hey all! I am hoping to one day soon begin a career working in the theatre. However, I am not college educated, or have had a prior experience working in the theatre. I have several years of customer service experience at a high level, restaurants and shoe sales right outside of Boston, but would just love to work in the theatre full time. I admit, maybe I am naive to the type of job options available but that's why I come here. If anyone has any advice, questions, experience, I'd appreciate all and any help! Thanks :)

Go back to college and get a degree. When you join the theatre club, you can start getting experince working on shows.

with your background in customer service, would working in a box office or in house management appeal to you?

Yes!! I mainly am just not aware of what good jobs there are to potentially build a career around. These would sound like great customer service jobs though, hopefully they'd be enough to pay the bills!

Box offices in most Broadway houses are unionized. So the pay and benefits are good. Though that might make them a little more difficult to get into.

Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

You're already qualified to work in merchandise, which is pretty accessible to get into. From there you can make connections with house managers and box office staff.

You are less likely to get work as a theater manager or in the box office if you aren't associated with one of the Broadway unions and working in New York. The Shuberts, for example, have mostly promoted from within, either from the usher pool or from Reeve but that's that hard been acquired.
